Resolving tensions surrounding massive pulleys

TL;DR: The distribution of string tension on the contact line between an ideal string and a massive pulley is a frequently discussed but incompletely posed problem that confronts students in introductory mechanics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface phonons and dimer ordering transitions on Si(001) surfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, a theory of the orientational ordering transition for the dimer-based reconstruction of the Si(001) surface is developed and used to study the temperature dependence of the surface phonons through the ordering transition.

Rose Patterns in the Nonperturbative Current Response of Two-Dimensional Superlattices

TL;DR: In this article , the authors obtained analytic expressions for the current in a band-projected theory with time-reversal and trigonal symmetry, up to infinite order in the driving field.
Journal ArticleDOI

Zero-temperature phase diagram of the one-dimensional t−J model

TL;DR: In this article, a variational approach and an exact ground-state projection method were combined to study the t−J model in one dimension by combining the variational method and the exact ground state projection method and they found that the model exhibits Luttinger liquid behavior for most of the phase diagram before the critical J t for phase separation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Statistical transmutation in diluted flux states

TL;DR: A generalization of the commensurate-flux-state theory of the diluted t-J model in which fluctuations in the self-induced gauge field are coupled to the hole coordinates to investigate the dynamics of these diluted flux states.
