The present invention relates to a system that is capable of freely selecting one or two or more types of fuel and supplying the selected types of fuel to an internal combustion engine. Disclosed is a hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine that operates upon receipt of one or more types of fuel that are selected from hydrogenated fuel and a dehydrogenated product and hydrogen, which are obtained by dehydrogenating the hydrogenated fuel. The hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine comprises: a hydrogenated fuel storage section; reaction means for invoking a dehydrogenation reaction; separation means for separating hydrogen-rich gas and dehydrogenated product; and a dehydrogenated product storage section for storing the separated dehydrogenated product.

Internal combustion engine utilizing hydrogen

A process for the net catalytic oxidative dehydrogenation of alkanes to produce alkenes is provided. The process involves simultaneous equilibrium dehydrogenation of alkanes to alkenes and combustion of the hydrogen formed to drive the equilibrium dehydrogenation reaction further to the product alkenes. In the present reaction, the alkane feed is dehydrogenated over an equilibrium dehydrogenation catalyst in a first reactor (110) and the effluent, along with oxygen is then passed into the second reactor (120) containing a metal oxide catalyst which serves to selectively catalyze the combustion of hydrogen. The equilibrium dehydrogenation catalyst may comprise platinum and the selective metal oxide combustion catalyst may contain bismuth, antimony, indium, or molybdenum, or a mixture thereof.

Process for the catalytic dehydrogenation of alkanes to alkenes with simultaneous combustion of hydrogen

Catalysts and methods for alkane oxydehydrogenation are disclosed. The catalysts of the invention generally comprise (i) nickel or a nickel-containing compound and (ii) at least one or more of titanium (Ti), tantalum (Ta), niobium (Nb), hafnium (Hf), tungsten (W), yttrium (Y), zinc (Zn), zirconium (Zr), or aluminum (Al), or a compound containing one or more of such element(s). In preferred embodiments, the catalyst is a supported catalyst, the alkane is selected from the group consisting of ethane, propane, isobutane, n-butane and ethyl chloride, molecular oxygen is co-fed with the alkane to a reaction zone maintained at a temperature ranging from about 250° C. to about 350° C., and the ethane is oxidatively dehydrogenated to form the corresponding alkene with an alkane conversion of at least about 10% and an alkene selectivity of at least about 70%.

Alkanes are dehydrogenated by passage through alternating dehydrogenation zones and selective oxidation zone(s), in which latter zone(s) hydrogen produced in the preceding endothermic dehydrogenation reaction is selectively oxidized to generate heat for the succeeding dehydrogenation reaction. New catalyst compositions are prepared comprising reduced and sulfided nickel crystallites on siliceous supports which have been treated with chromium compounds and oxidized to provide surface-anchored chromyl species.
