Social entrepreneurship has been defined as entrepreneurship with a social goal; social entrepreneur is a change agent. Literature shows that social entrepreneurship is treated as a youthful field of study and needs thorough observational appraisals to develop, which proposes a plenitude of research openings (Hoogendoorn, Pennings, & Thurik, ERIM Report Series Reference No. ERS-2009-044-ORG, 2010; Hand & Lewis, Stanford Social Innovation Review, 2016). The work on social entrepreneurship is on the rise; however, little attention was given to the traits and motivational factors for social entrepreneurs. To fill this gap, this study explores the traits and motivations of social entrepreneurs. A content analysis technique has been used to analyse the data. The interviews, speeches and articles on nine social entrepreneurs were analysed. The results indicate education, global exposure, prior work experience, creativity, empathy, community roots and contentment were the main characteristics of a social entrepreneur. Self-transcendence, unique ideas and innovation to solve pain points, inspiration and personal experience motivate an individual to become a social entrepreneur. Findings of this study will contribute to the practical and research in the area of social entrepreneurship. The present research will contribute to the growing literature that attempts to explain the profile of a social entrepreneur and motivational factors.

Hidden aspects of social entrepreneurs’ life: a content analysis

It is very important to understand and apply the full implications of knowledge management implementation and improve the interrelations between SMEs and consumer/supplier network in order to grow network knowledge, knowledge combination and knowledge creation. The purpose of this work was to explore the impact of network knowledge and knowledge combination to knowledge creation in the example of Serbian entrepreneurial firms. The investigations were done using a questionnaire, based on which three hypotheses were developed and tested by a structural equation model, using linear structural relations (LISREL statistical package software).

THE ROLE OF PALESTINIAN WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT Abeer Istanbuli Thesis Summary Women entrepreneurs have, for generations, played a very important role in society and have made a crucial contribution to its development. Using a sample of 160 Palestinian women entrepreneurs owned a business venture as representative of entrepreneurs acting in extremely resource-deprived environments, the data was collected through face-to-face interviews, using a structured questionnaire between September 2nd and November 4th 2012. We use a hierarchal regression analysis to test the hypotheses proposed in the study. Generally, the study is designed to identify the factors that influence the performance of businesses owned by women entrepreneurs in light of the challenges they face in the Palestinian context. Specifically, we seek to explain differences in firm performance by focusing on individual capabilities and organizational practices Palestinian women-led firms develop to respond to a resource-deprived environment. Both individual capabilities and practices developed at the organizational level to face resource needs are significant sources of variation in firm performance. We focus on individual characteristics and capabilities of women entrepreneurs, resource mobilization through bricolage, different growth strategies influence firm performance; and how bricolage supports firms to translate these growth strategies into better organizational results. The findings of this study contribute to literature on entrepreneurship in the context of developing countries. Firstly, at firm level, results suggest that bricolage is an important mean of mobilizing the resources needed to grow in resource-deprived environments and for entrepreneurs occupying marginal positions in society, with limited access to power and decision-making centers. Bricolage has a positive and direct influence on firm performance as it helps firm to respond to environmental challenges and can lead to the identification of new entrepreneurial opportunities. Additionally, the results show that the relationship between bricolage and firm performance can be strengthened depending on the type of growth strategy the entrepreneur develops. Secondly, at individual level, the results suggest that personal characteristics and some entrepreneur?s competencies influence business performance. The results showed that the companies of women who have high self efficacy and possess the ability to attract key resources perform better than those of women that don?t have such traits and competencies. Finally, this study opens new avenues for future research about entrepreneurship and small business management in specific contexts. In this sense, future studies can explore how different contexts condition the specific behaviors that entrepreneurs develop to make do and the types of resources they use in this process.

The role of Palestinian women entrepreneurs in business development

The problem to be discussed in this study is to determine the effect of entrepreneurial characters on type of ownership in an enterprise. The aim of the study is to determine whether there is a relation between entrepreneurial characters and enterprise ownership. The method of the study: 213 SMEs (Small and Medium Size Enterprises) in Konya were surveyed and data gathered was assessed. Findings and results: As a result of the analyses carried out, although it was seen that enterprise owners generally have entrepreneurial characters, no relation was found between enterprise ownership type and having entrepreneurial characters. Suggestions: It was determined that enterprise owners generally have high entrepreneurial characters and by providing them an accurate guidance to make best use of these characters of them, industrialization and development process can be accelerated. Further Discussion: The fact that all the enterprise owners have high entrepreneurial characters is not an expected result. Therefore, it can be concluded that 'the entrepreneurial characters which were used in previous many studies and which guided many studies can no longer distinguish ones with entrepreneurial characters from those without entrepreneurial characters'. Further, more comprehensive and detailed studies are to be carried out on this issue. Another point of discussion is whether starting type is an indicator of entrepreneurial character or not. In this study, entrepreneurial characters are examined in terms of both starting a business and their effect on the type of ownership. .
