Journal ArticleDOI
Heavy Metal Removal by Microalgae
TL;DR: In some cases, the toxic substances could be degraded by biological treatment, but in the case of heavy metals, they remain in the sediments and are slowly released into the water body.
Journal ArticleDOI
Batch mixed culture of Chlorella vulgaris using settled and diluted piggery waste
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of the initial concentration of settled piggery wastewater in the range from 250 to 1100mg COD/l on a mixed culture of Chlorella vulgaris and bacteria was carried out using 1-l batch culture bottles.
Journal ArticleDOI
A helical tubular photobioreactor producing Spirulina in a semicontinuous mode
TL;DR: The determination of a satisfactory condition for the use of this type of photobioreactor in tropical climates and the study of its performance under various dilutions were the main objectives of this work.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experiments on immobilization of microalgae for nutrient removal in wastewater treatments
TL;DR: Internal immobilization and the use of an upflow pattern failed with pretreated cattle manure due to the dark colour of this substrate, but good efficiencies were obtained at hydraulic loadings in the range of 0.5-2.5 l/l-day using downflow columns.
Journal ArticleDOI
BIOALGA reactor: preliminary studies for heavy metals removal
TL;DR: In this article, a rotary biofilm reactor for algae immobilization (BIOALGA) with the subject of heavy metal removal was investigated, and the experimental results obtained were evaluated using a pseudo first-order kinetic model to obtain values for the kinetic constant and the maximum cobalt ion removal efficiency of the process.
