This application relates to a system and a method for transprojection of geometry data acquired by a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). The transprojection process includes associating coordinate or geometry data with image data, and furthermore scaling and overlying, super-imposing or inserting the coordinate data into the image data. The CMM acquires geometry data corresponding to 3D coordinate measurements collected by a measuring probe that are transformed into scaled 2D data that is transprojected upon various digital object image views captured by a camera. The transprojection process can utilize stored image and coordinate information or perform live transprojection viewing capabilities in both still image and video modes.

A coordinate measurement device comprises an articulated arm having a first end, a second end, and a plurality of jointed arm segments therebetween. Each arm segment defines at least one axis of rotation. A laser scanner assembly is coupled to the second end of the arm and is rotatable about a last axis of rotation of the articulated arm. The laser scanner assembly comprises a laser and an image sensor. The laser is positioned on an opposite side of the last axis of rotation from the image sensor.

A method of operating an articulated arm CMM is provided. Instructions for the CMM can be inputted to the CMM arm by an action chosen from the group consisting of placing the arm in a predefined position and moving the arm in a predefined manner.

In one embodiment, a coordinate measurement apparatus includes an articulated arm having a first end and a second end with at least a first arm segment and a second arm segment therebetween. Further, the apparatus can comprise at least one ball and socket joint connecting the first arm segment to the second arm segment, with the ball and socket joint including a ball member and a socket member, and a measurement probe attached to the first end of said articulated arm.

A portable coordinate measurement machine having three articulating arm transfer members can provide accurate measurements. The transfer members can be single tube assemblies. The transfer members can each be rotatably joined by relatively short articulating joint assemblies allowing relative rotation of adjacent transfer members about two degrees of freedom. Encoders can be used to measure the relative rotation about each of the degrees of freedom, and signals from the encoders can be digitized by processor boards positioned within the transfer members. Processor boards can be placed in tandem in the transfer members, and one or more of the processor boards can be mounted on a rotatable assembly. Slip rings can electrically couple all of the processor boards to allow for infinite rotatability of the articulating arm.

PURPOSE:To improve productivity by a method wherein a turning type articulated robot is formed in a multiarm type and is made endlessly turnable. CONSTITUTION:An intermittently indexed and rotated turning column 16 is provided with three articulated arms 22 actuated by an air actuator. A rotary joint 31 is located between a piping 32 on the fixed side on the air pressure source side to feed an air pressure to the air actuator of each articulated arm 22 and a piping 33 on the rotation side. A slip ring 41 is located in a wiring for feeding power to a solenoid valve 35 on the turning column side to control the direction of an air pressure, and the side of the power supply is electrically connected to the turning column side. A control command is inputted through an optical data transmission device 51 from the outside to a control part 44 on the turning column side to control the solenoid valve 35. The device 51 comprises a photo data communicating unit 52 located on a fixing plate 54 and a photo data communicating unit 53 formed integrally with the turning column 16, has the two units are positioned facing each other during the stop of the rotation of the turning column 16.
