Abstract: The friction conforming contact problem in three dimensions is formulated using the Boundary Equation Method. Two sources of difficulties arise. The lack of knowledge of the correct partition of the contact zone (sliding and adhesion zones), and the nonlinearity associated to the sliding direction. A procedure to find the correct partition, starting from the adhesion situation, is proposed. The non-linear system of equations is solved applying a Newton-Raphson technique with relaxation. The applicability of the proposed procedure is shown by solving the problem of a punch on an elastic foundation.
