Third Sector Institutions associated to education areas in Brazil and their impact in curricular references for modernizing industrial engineering courses: A case study

This article is devoted to the study of the content characteristics of the model of a modern engineer. It is shown, that its optimal formation in the conditions of digital transformation is possible only with the interaction of the higher education system and the subjects of the real sector of the economy. It is noted that in the formation of the model of the engineer it is necessary to proceed from the relationship of such components as the requirements for the competence of engineers imposed by enterprises; the necessary knowledge and skills that are provided by universities; effective approaches to training, the implementation of which is possible in the conditions of close cooperation between universities and enterprises. The paper emphasizes the effectiveness of a practice oriented approach to training engineers, which is confirmed by the experience of the specialized departments as a single educational platform of universities and enterprises. On the example of the specialized department of “Aircraft Engineering” of the Don State Technical University, the efficiency of the practice oriented approach to training engineers is evaluated.

Formation of an Engineer Model in the Conditions of Digital Transformation: Interaction of Enterprises and Universities

Due to the progress in both technical and social aspects, higher engineering education faces many challenges, including diversity-efficiency dilemma, cost constrains, and a changeable human resource market for engineering major graduates. Meanwhile, in China, from the end of last century, a great expansion took place in higher education. China's higher engineering education not only has to meet the problems encountered by engineering education itself, but also has to transform from elite higher education to mass higher education. Based on the successful experience of mass customization application in manufacturing industries, mass customization is introduced into the curriculum reform of higher engineering education to meet the challenges in the transforming time. A case study at Shaoxing University, China, is presented in this paper to show how the principle of mass customization was employed in curriculum reform in order to improve the diversity, cross-disciplinary and agility of higher engineering education in an ever-changing age.

Nowadays we are in an ever-changing world and higher engineering education is facing more challenges than before. Due to the globalization of economy, engineering products are manufactured by integrating resources from many countries all over the world. Engineering projects are implemented by the people with different cultural background. Programs of higher engineering education seem to be more specialized and more comprehensive. Meanwhile, each program is getting more and more cross disciplinary based. The trend of these changes continuous forward and the changes are getting more and more rapidly so that higher institutions find more difficult to cope with these changes than before. It becomes very important to improve the agility of engineering education in order to keep its capability of competition in education market. According to the experiences in manufacturing industries, the agility is simply considered as the ability of quick responsiveness at low costs. In this paper, based on the successful implementation in manufacturing industries, virtual organization is introduced to improve the agility of engineering education. A two-dimension model is developed to illustrate how different programs are built on different disciplines by means of virtual organization. In this model all the disciplines in an institution are considered as a set of real organizations in real dimension and all the programs are considered as a set of virtual organizations in virtual dimension. Furthermore, the concepts of modularization and postponement are employed in curriculum development to facilitate the implementation of virtual organization in higher engineering education and then to combine the advantages of scale and scope for teaching administration.
