Effect of Zr additions and annealing temperature on electrical conductivity and hardness of hot rolled Al sheets

An aluminum-alloy main-starting powder for producing a sintered aluminum-alloy consists of 0,1 to 3,0 % by weight of Cu, the balance being Al and unavoidable impurities. A master alloy powder consists of 4 to 20 % by weight of Mg, 12 to 30 % by weight of Si, and Al and unavoidable impurities in balance.

Aluminium-alloy powder, sintered aluminium-alloy, and method for producing the sintered aluminum-alloy

A process is described for the preparation of an aluminium-strontium master alloy suitable for use as structure refiner during the solidification of molten aluminium-silicon alloys, comprising atomizing a molten alloy containing 3 to 30% by weight of strontium, the balance being aluminium, quick cooling of the atomized droplets to obtain solid particles and consolidation of the obtained solid particles.

Aluminium-strontium master alloy

The experimental Al-0.6%Zr-0.4%Fe-0.4%Si alloy has been manufactured by using the method of electromagnetic casting. It is shown that Zr is completely dissolved in the aluminum solid solution (Al) and iron is fully included in the Al8Fe2Si phase. The fine microstructure of the as-cast rod implies a high deformation plasticity, which has been experimentally confirmed during wire production. The cold-rolled wire has an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) ~ 260 MPa, and subsequent annealing at 400°C for 3 h slightly reduces the strength, which is associated with the stabilizing effect of the L12 (Al3Zr) phase nanoparticles formed during annealing. Annealing also leads to a significant increase in the specific conductivity, the value of which reaches 57.0 IACS. Drawing of the annealed rolled wire leads to significant strengthening. Annealing at 400°C leads to a marked strength reduction, which, however, remains high enough for conductive alloys (UTS higher than 200 MPa).

Structure and Properties of Al-0.6%Zr-0.4%Fe-0.4%Si (wt.%) Wire Alloy Manufactured by Electromagnetic Casting

A method of manufacturing sintered Al-Si series alloy parts having complex configurations such as scroll shaped parts wherein Al-Si series alloy powder solidified via rapid cooling prepared by adding effective components such as Si, Cu, Mg, Fe, Mn, Zr and Ce to Al is compression molded, the molded body is sintered by heating via an electrical current conduction in a form of a plasma discharge and then the sintered body is worked by pressing, thereby the parts having complex configurations of light weight, high mechanical strength and toughness is manufactured with a simple installation and reduced processing manhours, and with a high efficiency and at a low cost.

Method of manufacturing sintered aluminum alloy parts

Aluminium alloy and a method of making it, whereby the alloy contains Zr and from 0 to 1% of one or more of the elements Mg, Si, Ag, Ni and Cu, the balance being mainly Al, the alloy being made on the basis of a melt which contains 0.5 to 2% by weight of Zr and which has been cast into particles by being cooled with such a high velocity that the Zr mainly is present in a supersaturated solution. The particles are consolidated and the Zr is precipitated as finely distributed dispersoids after a heat treatment at 300° to 450° C., and the alloy has an electrical conductivity of at least 58% IACS and a 10% softening temperature of at least 400° C. The consolidation may for instance be carried out by extrusion.
