Journal ArticleDOI
Patient selection for accelerated partial-breast irradiation (APBI) after breast-conserving surgery: Recommendations of the Groupe Européen de Curiethérapie-European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (GEC-ESTRO) breast cancer working group based on clinical evidence (2009)
Csaba Polgár,Erik Van Limbergen,Richard Pötter,György Kovács,Alfredo Polo,J. Lyczek,Guido Hildebrandt,Peter Niehoff,Jose Luis Guinot,Ferran Guedea,Bengt Johansson,Oliver J. Ott,Tibor Major,Vratislav Strnad +13 more
TL;DR: Recommendations will provide clinical guidance regarding the use of APBI outside the context of a clinical trial before large-scale randomized clinical trial outcome data become available and should promote further clinical research focusing on controversial issues in the treatment of early-stage breast carcinoma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quality-of-Life Impact of Primary Treatments for Localized Prostate Cancer in Patients Without Hormonal Treatment
Yolanda Pardo,Ferran Guedea,Ferran Aguiló,Pablo Fernández,Víctor Macías,Alfonso Mariño,Asunción Hervás,Ismael Herruzo,Maria Jose Ortiz,Javier Ponce de León,Jordi Craven-Bratle,José Francisco Suárez,Ana Boladeras,Àngels Pont,Adriana Ayala,G. Sancho,Evelyn Martinez,Jordi Alonso,Montserrat Ferrer +18 more
TL;DR: Relevant differences between treatment groups persisted for up to 3 years of follow- up, although the difference in sexual adverse effects between brachytherapy and prostatectomy tended to decline over long-term follow-up.
Journal ArticleDOI
Late side-effects and cosmetic results of accelerated partial breast irradiation with interstitial brachytherapy versus whole-breast irradiation after breast-conserving surgery for low-risk invasive and in-situ carcinoma of the female breast: 5-year results of a randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial
Csaba Polgár,Oliver J. Ott,Guido Hildebrandt,Daniela Kauer-Dorner,Hellen Knauerhase,Tibor Major,J. Lyczek,Jose Luis Guinot,Jürgen Dunst,Cristina Gutierrez Miguelez,Pavel Šlampa,Michael Allgäuer,Kristina Lössl,Bülent Polat,György Kovács,Arnt-René Fischedick,Rainer Fietkau,Alexandra Resch,Anna Kulik,Leo Arribas,Peter Niehoff,Ferran Guedea,Annika Schlamann,Richard Pötter,Christine M. Gall,Wolfgang Uter,Vratislav Strnad +26 more
TL;DR: The non-inferiority of accelerated partial breast irradiation with interstitial brachytherapy in terms of local control and overall survival compared with whole-breast irradiation for patients with early-stage breast cancer who underwent breast-conserving surgery in a phase 3 randomised trial is confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Health-Related Quality of Life 2 Years After Treatment With Radical Prostatectomy, Prostate Brachytherapy, or External Beam Radiotherapy in Patients With Clinically Localized Prostate Cancer
Montserrat Ferrer,José Francisco Suárez,Ferran Guedea,Pablo Fernández,Víctor Macías,Alfonso Mariño,Asunción Hervás,Ismael Herruzo,Maria Jose Ortiz,Humberto Villavicencio,Jordi Craven-Bratle,Olatz Garin,Ferran Aguiló +12 more
TL;DR: Relevant differences between treatment groups persisted after 2 years of follow-up, and radical prostatectomy had a considerable negative effect on sexual functioning and urinary continence, and three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy had a moderate negative impact on bowel functioning and brachytherapy caused moderate urinary irritation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radiation therapy for chordoma and chondrosarcoma of the skull base and the cervical spine. Prognostic factors and patterns of failure.
Georges Noël,Jean-Louis Habrand,Eric Jauffret,Renaud de Crevoisier,Sygon Dederke,Hamid Mammar,Christine Haie-Meder,Dominique Pontvert,Dominique Hasboun,Régis Ferrand,Gilbert Boisserie,Anne Beaudre,G. Gaboriaud,Ferran Guedea,Lourdes Petriz,Jean-Jacques Mazeron +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors performed a prospective analysis of local tumor control, survival and treatment complications in 67 consecutive patients treated with fractionated photon and proton radiation for chordoma or chondrosarcoma of the base of the skull and the cervical spine.
