A smoking article may include a cigarette incorporated within an electrically powered aerosol generating device that acts as a holder for that cigarette. The smoking article possesses at least one form of tobacco. The smoking article also possesses a mouth-end piece that is used by the smoker to inhale components of tobacco that are generated by the action of heat upon components of the cigarette. A representative smoking article possesses an outer housing incorporating a source of electrical power (e.g., a battery), a sensing mechanism for powering the device at least during periods of draw, and a heating device (e.g., at least one electrical resistance heating element) for forming a thermally generated aerosol that incorporates components of tobacco. During use, the cigarette is positioned within the device, and after use, the used cigarette is removed from the device and replaced with another cigarette.

Tobacco-containing smoking article

A fuel filter for a motor vehicle includes a housing made of a base Nylon 12 material to which are added stainless steel fibers to render the housing electrically conductive while retaining moldability. The electrically conductive housing permits charges generated by the fuel passing through the filtering media to be dissipated to the vehicle body, thereby preventing erosion of the housing and subsequent leaks.

Electrostatically dissipative fuel filter

A filter composed in such a manner that conductive filter media (21) to (28) are spirally wound with separating plates (31) to (38) interposed therebetween and the filter media (21) to (28) are bonded to each other in a double leaved form at neighboring ends thereof so that they may be opened in the direction of flow of gas and fine particles in the gas may be trapped when the gas passes through the media (21) to (28). The filter media (21) to (28) are connected to a central electrode (41) provided in the center of the windings thereof and to an outer cylindrical electrode (42) provided on the outer peripheral part of the windings, with heating electric current supplied thereto.

Self-heating filter

An apparatus for removing oil mist includes a cylindrical main body having an air inlet at one end and an air outlet at the other side thereof. A cylindrical rotatable filter having one end open to the air inlet and a centrifugal fan disposed concentrically within the filter and rotatable therewith are positioned within the main body. An oil adsorbent layer is provided on the inner surface of the main body surrounding the filter. The air taken in through the air inlet is passed through the filter into the air outlet causing air-borne oil mist to adhere to the filter. That oil mist which coalesces on the filter is centrifugally forced outward, is adsorbed by the oil adsorbent layer, and thereafter travels through the oil absorbent layer for discharge through an oil drain channel.

Apparatus for removing oil mist

A fuel filter having a plastic housing with a chamber therein for receiving a non-polar fluid such as fuel has an inlet and an outlet to the chamber and a filter media is disposed within the chamber for filtering the fuel flowing therethrough. A coating is provided for conducting electricity from the inside of the housing to the outside of the housing to a common electrical plane. This conductive path is preferably provided by merely coating the entire fuel filter, both inside and out with a conductive coating, such as chromium.

Conductive filter elements are made by treating nonconductive fibrous materials such as inorganic or organic fibers with resins containing finely divided carbon The treated fibers are then fabricated into filter elements which are electrically conductive throughout Strands of roving or yarn which are nonconductive may be joined by twisting together with strands of conductive roving or yarn to give conductivity to the finished multiple strand Conductive filter elements are also made from extruded fibers which are filled with carbonaceous material during extrusion These elements permit grounding of static electrical potential which would otherwise accumulate in a nonconductive element If desired, a controlled low potential direct or alternating electrical charge can be maintained on the filter element to enhance the separation of particles of opposite charge Particulate filter media, such as that used in filter beds, may also be treated with carbon to form an electrically conductive filter mass
