TL;DR: MEDINA provides a user-friendly customization tool that can be used without any implementation effort, and is integrated within a modular, highly portable software architecture for dynamic application generation.
Abstract: An enterprise framework denotes a "reusable, "'semi-complete" application skeleton that can be easily adapted to produce custom applications in a specific business domain. This paper presents the requirements, design, and implementation of MEDINA, an enterprise framework for content intensive networked hypermedia in the domain of cultural tourism. MEDINA provides a user-friendly customization tool that can be used without any implementation effort, and is integrated within a modular, highly portable software architecture for dynamic application generation.

Abstract: The paper proposes an approach to enterprise frameworks for data intensive Web applications that is centered on the needs of "domain experts", who are specialists in a business or cultural sector but typically lack of technological expertise. We discuss our approach by presenting the requirements, design, and implementation of Medina, an enterprise framework for data intensive Web applications in the field of cultural tourism. Medina comprises: i) a user-friendly visual tool that can be used, without any implementation know-how, to customize and instantiate the framework, and to preview the effects of these operations; ii) a modular, highly portable software architecture that integrates the above tool and supports dynamic application preview and generation.

01 Jan 2005TL;DR: This paper introduces a set of heuristics, abstract tasks and a novel inspection method (named PUW) which enable usability experts to analyze the effectiveness of information and navigation provided to support the resource management and process workflow execution.
Abstract: Modern web sites are more and more including complex business processes closely related to the core business of proponent companies. Processes manage resources (books, cars, train tickets, flight reservation, etc.) closely related to the core business of proponent companies and their execution is constrained by the underlying business logic and architecture. Web processes are executed by means of a web application which has to obey to the navigational interaction paradigm. These three characteristics of web business processes raise a number of usability issues up yet uncovered by existing usability methods. This paper introduces a set of heuristics, abstract tasks and a novel inspection method (named PUW) which enable usability experts to analyze the effectiveness of information and navigation provided to support the resource management and process workflow execution. Compared to existing inspection methods, the approach steps over addressing entire process execution usability instead of focusing on its composing pages by their own.
