TL;DR: Two main algorithms are presented: the first one performs a covering of a given function by a polytope and works under quite general assumptions on the nature of the function; the second one is iterative and allows us to improve at will the goodness of the covering.
Abstract: In this paper we consider the problem of covering the image of a given function by a polytope. This problem arises in both the robust and quadratic stability context. We present two main algorithms: the first one performs such a covering and works under quite general assumptions on the nature of the function; the second one is iterative and allows us to improve at will the goodness of the covering. The convergence properties of this algorithm are also discussed. Finally two examples of application of our techniques are presented.

TL;DR: The authors suggest the use of the /spl Hscr//sup /spl infin// filtering method to observe the state variables in a Tokamak machine.
Abstract: In order to control position and shape of a plasma in a Tokamak machine, a measurement of the geometrical parameters which characterizes the configuration of the plasma becomes mandatory. Since some of these parameters are not directly measurable, they must be estimated starting from the set of available data. To this end the authors suggest the use of the /spl Hscr//sup /spl infin// filtering method to observe the state variables.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered the optimal terminal state control problem for a linear time-varying system with time delay and subject to unknown, square integrable disturbances and provided a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an optimal control law which minimizes the weighted terminal state attenuating the effects of the admissible disturbances under a prespecified level.
Abstract: In this paper we consider the optimal terminal state control problem for a linear time-varying system with time delay and subject to unknown, square integrable disturbances. Using a differential games approach, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an optimal control law which minimizes the weighted terminal state attenuating the effects of the admissible disturbances under a prespecified level.

TL;DR: Assuming that the parameters range in a hyperrectangle, this work provides a necessary and sufficient condition for the quadratic stabilizability of the system in terms of convex optimization procedures.
