A synthetic aperture radar in which radial motion compensation is provided by a monopulse null tracking loop which tracks the null position of a stabilized monopulse antenna, and in which tangential motion compensation is provided by a tangential velocity measurement loop which tracks the cross-over angle of the monopulse antenna pattern. Since the motion compensation for the synthetic aperture radar is made in relation to a stabilized monopulse antenna, the imaging process for the synthetic aperture radar may be controlled in response to the angular scan rate of the antenna.

A system and method of identifying carts exhibiting tendencies that are indicative of damaged or defective wheels. A shopping cart may be identified and tracked visually through one or more surveillance cameras. By comparing the cart's tracked movement to known symptomatic movement patterns, the system may identify defective or damaged carts. Alternatively, by analyzing movement and positioning of a cart's swiveling wheels, the system may identify defective or damaged carts. Alternatively, by identifying if a customer has abandoned a cart, the system may identify defective or damaged carts. A notification message may be transmitted to an associate to repair or replace the identified problematic cart. The notification may be displayed on a mobile computing device, a workstation, or other like systems.

In a SAR system (10) a method is provided for compensating for antenna AN residual motion relative to a motion sensor INS, wherein such residual motion causes phase corruption in a radar image produced by the SAR system. Residual motion compensation is provided by first correlating a received radar signal to a range line having a plurality of azimuth positions. Such signal is transformed into a frequency spectrum indicating the reflectivity of point reflectors at the various azimuth positions. Then, the range line is sampled for symmetric triplets of three sequential point reflectors positioned along the range line at a distance from each other corresponding to a specified frequency associated to a mode of residual vibration of the antenna. The amplitude and phase angle of said mode of the antenna residual motion may be obtained from such symmetric triplet(s).

Automatic motion compensation for residual motion in a synthetic aperture radar system

An electronically or mechanically scanning monopulse radar has an antenna feeding incident microwave energy contaminated by jamming signal to a processor which has a sum channel and one or two difference channels generating a raw sum signal Σ along with a raw azimuthal difference signal Δ.sub.θ and/or a raw elevational difference signal Δ.sub.φ. Each channel includes an algebraic adder subtracting from its own raw output signal a contamination signal representing estimated disturbance which is derived with the aid of an adaptive cancellation loop from the raw output signal or signals of the other channel or channels, thereby producing a purged sum signal Σ' as well as one or two purged difference signals Δ'.sub.θ, Δ'.sub.φ. The purged output signal of each channel is fed back to the corresponding cancellation loop for correlation with the raw output signal or signals from the other channel or channels.

A monopulse radar system having automated target identification capability. first target recognizer, which can recognize a desired target by its radar signature, is used to improve direction finding performance by accurate placement and reduction in size of a receiver range gate. An additional target recognizing means is provided and allows integration of the return signal only if the signature of that return has been recognized as characteristic of the desired target.
