An Improved Method of Resonant Current Pulse Modulation for Power Converters

TL;DR: In this paper, a converter philosophy for controlled transfer and transformation of electric energy through internal series resonant circuits at high internal power frequencies in excess of 10 kHz is presented, which is suited for construction of failsafe and highly efficient, low cost, submegawatt, single module converters with currently available components.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Controllable 45-kW Current Source for DC Machines

TL;DR: In this article, a dc converter for the drive and control of a 45-kW traction motor in single quadrant operation with an efficiency of 96 percent is presented, which is due to the natural termination of thyristor currents, the positive confinement of the maximum momentary current and voltage stresses in the components below preset levels, and the low power dissipation in these components supported by a definite protection philosophy.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Controllable Secondary Multikilowatt DC Current Source With Constant Maximum Power Factor in its Three-Phase Supply Line

TL;DR: In this paper, a dc converter for sub-megawatt applications is described and illustrated with the characteristics of a small scale 10 kW model, which is characterized by the behavior of a true current source with inherent short circuit capability of its output terminals.
Journal ArticleDOI

A 95-Percent Efficient 1-kW DC Converter with an Internal Frequency of 50 kHz

TL;DR: In this article, a dc converter with an internal frequency of 50 kHz at an efficiency of 95 percent was described, which provided ohmic isolation between its input and output ports and was experimentally verified that the customary penalty of lowered efficiency at higher levels of frequency could be avoided by the use of series resonant circuits which favor the switching elements.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Doublesided Cycloconverter

TL;DR: In this paper, a power converter with reversible power flow is presented, which transforms polyphase ac or dc power of one form and voltage level to ac or DC power of another form and Voltage level, using a modulated highfrequency link between two sets of matrices of switches at the output terminals.
