The academic library: Structure, space, physical and virtual use

A number of studies have focused on the use of e-libraries, drawing numerous conclusions about the use and challenges facing e-libraries. This article therefore presents a review of the literature on the use of e-libraries in universities with a particular interest in Nigerian institutions. The article examines the concepts and the antecedents of electronic libraries. The review shows that a number of approaches have been used to assess the use of e-libraries, and that computer self-efficacy has an impact on the performance while technological innovation, by extension, enhances the satisfactory use of electronic library systems. In addition, the review underscores the fact that there are few studies that pay attention to the satisfactory usage of electronic libraries in Nigerian universities. The article thus concludes by restating the important roles those e-libraries play in information service delivery. Recommendations for further studies on the mode and modalities with which effective training is conducted especially in the area of information search skills are made.

The Use of Electronic Library Resources in Nigerian Universities: A Review of the Literature

The study analyses the faculty members have tried to get the e-resources for them needful in terms of academic research at South State Universities of Tamilnadu. It analyses that Out of 380 respondents, the male respondents are found 263(69.21%), the Ph.D. qualified respondents are found 285(75%). it is found that Madurai Kamaraj University and Alagappa University have respondents of each 130 (34.21%). it is found that all 380 (100%) respondents are aware of E-Resources available in the University Library. it is seen that 181 (47.66%) respondents are accessing the scholarly information via E-Resources on daily basis, 109 (28.68%) respondents are using once in two days. (22.40%) respondents from MSU the majority of 82 (96.50%) respondents got training from University Libraries and only 3 (3.50%) respondents are not getting the Training. , it is seen that 210 (55.26) respondents are extremely satisfied on OPAC/Web OPAC. 205(53.90) respondenrts are extremely satisfied on E-Databases, 192(50.52) respondents are extremely satisfied on Automated circulation services.

Research Quantify with faculty member’s perception and expectations in e-context at the academic sphere

The purpose of this paper is to examine the use of e-resources by the Faculty of Law’s academic staff at the University of Namibia’s (UNAM’s) main campus. The study aimed to determine their level of awareness of electronic resources (e-resources) available to them, how useful and effective they found these e-resources, and the challenges they face in accessing them.,A convenient sampling technique was used to select a sample of 12 law academics from the population of 17. The study used both qualitative and quantitative research methods using questionnaires and a semi-structured interview guide.,Findings revealed that the majority of the law academics were aware of the e-resources subscribed by UNAM’s library, although some were not aware of the newly subscribed international law databases. The findings further revealed that the academics used e-resources for research, publications and teaching purposes, but irregular training, bandwidth problems and limited searching skills hindered their use of e-resources.,Findings could be used to inform future collection-development decisions, realignment of information-literacy training and promotion and marketing of library services.,This study has made a significant contribution in the understanding the use of electronic legal resources by law academics at UNAM. The findings and recommendations could also benefit similar academic institutions in developing countries like Namibia.

Use of electronic resources by law academics: a case study from the University of Namibia

Academic libraries are hub of knowledge and hence are considered as integral parts of academic life. Academic libraries have been in existence for over 500 years and are still very useful today to all educational institutions. The advent of Information and Communication Technology has led to the use of electronic resources in libraries. However, empirical studies have shown that the use of these resources by faculty members is very low. The objective of this study therefore, was to examine the use of electronic resources by lecturers of the University for Development Studies, Wa campus. Primary data were collected from 80 lecturers through the use of a simple random sampling procedure. The data were collected with the aid of a questionnaire and analysed through the use of binary logistics regression model. The results indicate that 88.8% of the respondents were users of the Library and 65% were aware of the availability of e-resources in the Library. This suggests that awareness is high but utilization is low. The determinants of eresource utilisation in the Library include purpose of Library visit and sources of awareness of the e-resources in the Library. Besides, it was discovered that inadequate Library infrastructure, low internet bandwith, and inadequate trained library staff were the major challenges confronting the use of e-resources of the Library. The study therefore, recommends that efforts to improve the use of e-resources in the Library should include ways of creating user awareness, training/workshops for users and staff, and responding to the challenges confronting utilisation.
