Abstract: Metabolisme of living cells in open systems is investigated measuring the concentrations of feeding substrate and metabolic products by Raman spectroscopy. The advantage over methods used up to now (chemical analysis, absorption measurement etc.) is the capability of on-line measurements, which allows feed-back of the concentration data obtained to achieve self-regulation of the system.

Abstract: The vibrational Raman bands of some simple liquids are investigated on the influence of an external electric DC field from 0.1 to 1 MV/cm. Changes in Raman intensities and depolarization ratios are observed.
