TL;DR: Revadi and Thomas (1979) hypothesized, that though oestrogen, was probably responsible for the secretion of excessive quantities of endocervical mucus, the release of this mucus was probably mediated by progesterone, and showed that oestrogens produces a progressive increase in endocovical mucosal cell heights which is unrivalled by theendocervix, even in the pregnant state.
