The present invention relates to a method of and an apparatus for manufacturing biaxially oriented film. A tubular original film which has been extruded by an extruding die is biaxially oriented by heat and air injected to the inside portion thereof being conveyed to nip rolls each having an individual circumferential speed. The temperature of heat to be applied to the film is controlled on the basis of the detected film thickness for the purpose of obtaining a uniform film thickness distribution. Furthermore, the film can be made uniform by adjusting the outer diameter of the bubble-shaped oriented film by adjusting the distance between two sets of nip rolls on the basis of the measured width of the film. In addition, when the thus-oriented film is subjected to a heat treatment, temperature of heat is arranged to be a predetermined temperature as to prevent adhesion of the films.

PURPOSE:In the subject device for manufacturing a film by passing a thermoplastic resin tube between nip rolls, to carry out automatic blow-up by making movable in a longitudinal direction one of a pair of guide rolls arranged on the upstream side of a cutter knife forming tears in the tube. CONSTITUTION:A fixed guide roll 25 is mounted on the upstream sides of nip rolls 19 and 20, and a guide roll 26 capable of moving in the longitudinal direction in the interval is mounted on the side opposing thereto. On the other hand, a cutter edge 27 for tearing off the original tube and an air injection nozzle 28 are mounted to be projected or withdrawn between the guide roll 25 and nip rolls 19 and 20. The air injection nozzle is fitted so that its center projected through up to the bubble center at the time of air injection. The constant position of the roll 26 is in a position symmetric to the roll 25, whereas at the time of air injection it is movable to a position contacting the roll 25.
