A mobile terminal and a control method thereof, which can obtain an image, are provided. A mobile terminal (100) includes a camera unit (121), a pictogram extraction unit (182) and a controller (180). The camera unit (121) obtains image information corresponding to at least one of a still image and a moving image. The pictogram extraction unit (182) extracts at least one pictogram from the obtained image information. The controller (180) detects information related to the extracted pictogram, and displays the detected information to be overlapped with the obtained image information. In the mobile terminal, the controller (180) includes, as the detected information, at least one of previously recorded information and currently searched information related to the extracted pictogram.

Sentence based queries from a user are analyzed using a natural language engine to determine appropriate answers from an electronic database. The system and methods are useful for Internet based search engines, as well as distributed speech recognition systems such as a client-server system. The latter are typically implemented on an intranet or over the Internet based on user queries at his/her computer, a PDA, or a workstation using a speech input interface.

System and method for natural language processing of sentence based queries

A real-time system (100) incorporating speech recognition and linguistic processing for recognizing a spoken query by a user and distributed between client (150) and server (180), is disclosed. The system (100) accepts user's queries in the form of speech at the client (150) where minimal processing extracts a sufficient number of acoustic speech vectors representing the utterance. These vectors are sent via a communications channel (160A) to the server (180) where additional acoustic vectors are derived. Using Hidden Markov Models (HMMs), and appropriate grammars and dictionaries conditioned by the selections made by the user, the speech representing the user's query is fully decoded into text (or some other suitable form) at the server (180). The text corresponding to the user's query is then simultaneously sent to a natural language engine (190) and a database processor (186) where optimized SQL statements are constructed for a full-text search from a database (188) for a record set of several stored questions that best matches the user's query. Further processing in the natural language engine (190) narrows the search to a single stored question. The answer corresponding to this single stored question is next retrieved from the file path and sent to the client (150) in compressed form. At the client (150), the answer to the user's query is articulated to the user using a text-to-speech engine (159) in his or her native natural language. The system (100) requires no training and can operate in several natural languages.

Distributed real time speech recognition system

A real-time speech recognition system includes distributed processing across a client and server for recognizing a spoken query by a user. Both the client and server can dedicate a variable number of processing resources for performing speech recognition functions. The partitioning of responsibility for speech recognition operations can be done on a client by client or connection by connection basis.

Adjustable resource based speech recognition system

A graphical user interface may include a form with a plurality of fields, each field associated with a predetermined category. Each category may have its own, independent, discrete grammar associated therewith, and the independent grammars may be individually activated, simultaneously with their respective categories. In this way, a voice-recognition system that is inputting spoken data for each of the fields may have a restricted grammar to search when attempting to match a particular voice input with an entry for a particular field in the form. Moreover, a global grammar that is active with any one of the independent grammars may be used to move between the fields or perform other high-level functionality not associated with any one of the independent grammars.

Dynamic grammar for voice-enabled applications

This invention has as its object to provide a speech recognition system to which a client and a device that provides a speech recognition process are connected, which provides a plurality of usable speech recognition means to the client, and which allows the client to explicitly switch and use the plurality of speech recognition means connected to the network. There is provided a text search apparatus capable of dividing a structured document such as an HTML document into segments, and presenting segments containing a given search key as the search result, thereby providing a part of the document matching the search condition as the result of search. The document is divided into segments by specified tags, and a level of association with an adjacent segment is calculated. A header is detected by a header tag, and the header information is added to the segment contained in the range of the header. Segments are divided and re-integrated according to the level of association therebetween, and indexes are prepared. A search is executed for two indexes, and the level of matching is calculated by weighting the search results for the indexes, and the search result judged according to such level of matching is stored or outputted for each segment.

Data is formed by adding to the data provided on the network an identifier indicating a location where the voice data is stored. This data is provided to the browser apparatus. The browser apparatus receives the voice data from the location indicated by the identifier.
