Journal ArticleDOI

Rate and Extent of Neutral Detergent Fiber Degradation of Feedstuffs in Situ

TL;DR: In this article, the rate and extent of neutral detergent fiber degradation were determined for 22 feedstuffs in situ, and two diets were formulated to be similar in chemical composition but to differ in fill.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative digestion, rumen fermentation and kinetics of forage diets by steers and wethers.

TL;DR: Rumen pH and osmolality were affected by both level of intake and forage, with the ryegrass and highlevel of intake decreasing pH and increasing osmalality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Low and High Fill Diets on Dry Matter Intake, Milk Production, and Reproductive Performance During Early Lactation

TL;DR: Low ruminal pH on both diets as well as other physiological mechanisms may have been responsible for failure of rates of neutral detergent fiber disappearance to affect intake of dry matter.
Journal ArticleDOI

Buffer Requirements for Maintenance of pH during Fermentation of Individual Feeds in Continuous Cultures

TL;DR: In this paper, continuous culture fermentations were conducted to determine the base requirement of eight individual grains and five forages and the results showed that crude protein and acid detergent fiber contents of feeds were most closely correlated with base requirements.
