A review of experimental and modelling methods for accidental release behaviour of high-pressurised CO2 pipelines at atmospheric environment

Measurements of effective angles of crossed hot-wire probes to determine their efficacy for characterizing turbulence, particularly the vertical component and shear stress, in a boundary layer with mean wind speeds in the range 0.3-3 m have been made. These results suggest that the effective angles change markedly at low wind speeds, but proper calibrations and application of effective angles which are functions of the wind speed, although tedious, will yield results comparable to those from a laser-Doppler anemometer (LDA).

Wind-tunnel experiments on atmospheric heavy gas dispersion: Metrological aspects

A major, cooperative research project will be completed in 1997 from which an improved understanding will be gained about the dispersion of accidental, dense gas releases at industrial sites (i. e., high surface roughness) during low-wind stable meteorological conditions. The plans for this project were presented by Hanna and Steinberg (1995). Most previous research was limited to releases over smooth surfaces in nearly-neutral conditions (Hanna et al., 1993).
