Background and aim: Regarding the increasing number of elderly people, their quality of life. Becomes more important. Spiritual health is one of the important aspects of health status that is often neglected. This study aims to identify the relationship between spiritual well-being and quality of life among elderly people residing in Kahrizak Senior House. Material and methods: It was a descriptive, correlational study. The sample included 141 elderly people residing in Kahrizak Senior House who recruited by convenience sampling. Data was collected by Spiritual Well-Being Index (SWBI) and Short Form Quality of Life (SF36) and analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficients, ANOVA, and t-test using SPSS-PC (v-16). Results: The mean score of quality of life was (50.36±11.3). Women’s quality of life was Significantly lower than men (P=0.000). The mean score of spiritual well-being was (96.26±17.93). There was a positive correlation between spiritual well-being and quality of life (P=0.008). Conclusion: Regarding the lower levels of quality of life especially in women elderly, more. Attention should be paid to this group of society. Awareness of the importance of spiritual well-being in caring of these people is recommended.

After obtaining approval from the ethics committee of the Iran University of Medical Sciences Research Deputy; the 141 elderly people residing in Kahrizak Senior House who signed the inform consent were recruited by census. Data were collected by Ellison & Palutzian Spiritual Well-Being Index and Short Form Quality of Life (SF-36). The mean score of quality of life was (50.36 ± 11.3). The mean score of spiritual well-being was (96.26 ± 17.93). There was a positive correlation between spiritual well-being and quality of life (P = .008). According to positive correlation between spiritual well-being and quality-of-life scores, awareness of the importance of spiritual well-being in caring of these people is recommended.

The relationship between spiritual well-being and quality of life among elderly people.

BACKGROUND: One of the factors that have impact on the health status of elderly people is living alone. This study was conducted to examine the living condition of elderly population in Babol and probable differences which this condition induced on the health disorders of elderly people. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was performed on 1544 elderly people aged 60 and over in Amirkola, Babol. Demographic characteristics, the incidence of falls, chronic diseases, polypharmacy, headache with uncertain cause, chronic pains and back pain were collected by the study questionnaire; social support, physical activity, depression and cognitive disorders were assessed with standard questionnaires. RESULTS: 6.8% of elderly people were living alone. Lack of social support, cognitive disorders, depression, multiple chronic diseases, occurrence of falls and headache with uncertain cause were significantly higher among those elderly who live alone (pCONCLUSION: Many disorders and disabilities are higher in the elderly people who live alone; also there is a difference in the health status of elderly people who live alone, according to their gender. Gender differences in the health status of elderly living alone compared to those who are not alone: evidence of the AHAP study, North of Iran

Aging is a delicate part of our life and taking care of the subsequent problems and needs is a major social necessity. This study aims at determining the relationship between anxiety and loneliness among the Iranian older adults. In this correlational study, 200 older adults in Qom, Iran, were selected through the convenience sampling method. To gather the data, the Geriatric Anxiety Scale (GAS) and the UCLA Loneliness Scale (version 3) were used as well as a questionnaire containing demographic variables. The sample consisted of 66% male, 91.5% of whom were married and aged from 60 to 93 (Mean: 68.32, SD: 7.1). Analytic findings showed that the GAS total score and three subscales were strongly correlated with the UCLA-LS score. Loss of interpersonal relationship leads to loneliness, fear of losing and anxiety due to separation at the end. According to the results and due to the high level of loneliness of the elderly in this study, it is suggested that through increasing social relationship and strengthening the interactions in the elderly, one can replace a new interpersonal relation with the lost one to decrease the feeling of loneliness. Therefore it could be a great assistance to reduce the anxiety of separation in the elderly.

Anxiety and Loneliness in the Iranian Older Adults

One of the common psychological problems of the elderly is depression, anxiety and stress, and dementia. Social support is one of the variables associated with the elderly lifestyle that can be considered as a product of the social dimension of lifestyle. The present study was conducted to investigate the association of anxiety, stress, and depression with perceived social support among elderly people in Jahrom city. This is an analytical cross-sectional study that was conducted on elderly people in Jahrom city in Iran. The sample size in this study was 210 people and was selected through cluster sampling and random selection of clinics located in Jahrom. Data were collected from two questionnaires: Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS) and perceived social support. After completing the questionnaires, the data were analyzed using SPSS software version 21 with descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation. The results of Spearman’s correlation coefficient showed significant relationships between social support for the elderly and depression (r = −0.627, p   0.05). Depression and stress can be reduced by improving social support in the elderly. More attention should also be given to social support for oldermen.
