Journal ArticleDOI
Implications of endotracheal tube biofilm for ventilator-associated pneumonia.
Colin G. Adair,Sean P. Gorman,B M Feron,L. M. Byers,David S. Jones,C. E. Goldsmith,John E. Moore,J. R. Kerr,M D Curran,G Hogg,C H Webb,G.J. McCarthy,K. R. Milligan +12 more
TL;DR: Susceptibility data for these pairs show that the ET acts as a reservoir for infecting microorganisms which exhibit significantly greater antibiotic resistance than their tracheal counterparts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Eradication of endotracheal tube biofilm by nebulised gentamicin.
Colin G. Adair,Sean P. Gorman,L. M. Byers,David S. Jones,B M Feron,M. Crowe,H.C. Webb,G.J. McCarthy,K. R. Milligan +8 more
TL;DR: Nebulised gentamicin attained high concentrations in the ET lumen and was more effective in preventing the formation of biofilm than either parenterally administered cephalosporin and therefore may beeffective in preventing this complication of mechanical ventilation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Limited retention of micro-organisms using commercialized needle filters
W. Elbaz,G.J. McCarthy,T. Mawhinney,Colin E. Goldsmith,John E. Moore,John E. Moore,John E. Moore +6 more
TL;DR: A study was undertaken to compare a commercialized needle filter with a 0.2-μm filtered epidural set and a non-filtered standard needle, finding that filtration systems with different pore sizes will have varying ability to retain bacteria.
