This education-oriented paper gives a survey about the research work in the Sensor's Laboratory at the TU Budapest. The results are originating from the work of students of different level: ranging from undergraduate to Ph.D. Four research areas will be highlighted: (a) a thick film laser power detector, (b) a polymer thick film pressure sensor, (c) a fibre-optic pressure sensor, (d) thick film based enzymatic biosensors, (e) highly sensitive and selective polymer gas sensors, (f) modeling of Combined Sensor Technologies. The individual areas are under research and development, and the results demonstrated here are not always complete. This paper should be observed with this consideration in mind.

Thermodynamics of sensors

Fabrication and performance characteristics of a thick‐film laser power detector are presented. The new sensor combines the advantages of a circular resistor and highly sensitive NTC resistor paste. As a consequence of the layout, the sensitivity of this sensor depends slightly on the eccentricity and positioning of the laser beam. Therefore the measurement is simpler and the linearity and the reliability of detector are of a high standard.

Thick‐film Laser Power Detector

Microfluidic devices have emerged as prevailing and reliable microscale total analysis devices that offer minimum reagent consumption, high throughput, and control of multiple processes in a single smallest device. This book chapter discusses about sensing on microfluidic platform, its flow physics, which is very important for microflow systems and its potential applications. It discusses about manufacture methods and materials used for microfluidic platform that effect the flow systems. Further, the droplet-based microfluidics, drop dynamics, as well as formation of droplet mechanism for handling of chemical and/or biological samples for its sensors application are discussed. The developed sensing using microfluidic platform can show a scaled solution for future analysis.

Sensing Using Microfluidic Platform

The penetration of micro-electronics into new markets is seriously hampered by the lack of efficient, low-cost sensors. It is not surprising therefore to find that these devices are the subject of research in many laboratories. This paper gives a review of the most important sensors which are fabricated in silicon planar or hybrid technology. The review is preceded by some general considerations with respect to measurement systems and signal conversion.
