Interpretation of Ni2p XPS spectra of Ni conductors and Ni insulators

TL;DR: The spectral peak binding energies of Ni metal, NiS, and NiAs (all conductors) span a range of about 0.5ÕeV and are, consequently, insensitive to formal Ni oxidation state and the nature of the ligand to which Ni is bonded, relative to other metals (e.g., Fe) as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sulfur and iron surface states on fractured pyrite surfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that S-S bonds are the weaker bonds and they are likely to be ruptured when pyrite is fractured and two mononuclear species (formally S1-) are produced, one bound to one fracture surface and the other bound to the opposite fracture surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

XPS study of reductive dissolution of 7Å-birnessite by H3AsO3, with constraints on reaction mechanism

TL;DR: In this article, the reduction of synthetic birnessite (MnO1.7(OH)0.95) by arsenious acid (H3AsO3) proceeds in two steps.
Journal ArticleDOI

Applications of the Mössbauer effect to silicate mineralogy—I. Iron silicates of known crystal structure

TL;DR: In this article, a number of silicates of known crystal struc- ture, containing high-spin iron in a range of co-ordination symmetries, were fitted by computer to Lorentzian line shapes and the component peaks in each spectrum were assigned to the various positions in the particular silicate structure.
