Journal ArticleDOI
Antiretroviral activity of fucoidans extracted from the brown seaweed Adenocystis utricularis.
Juan Trinchero,Nora M.A. Ponce,Nora M.A. Ponce,Osvaldo León Córdoba,María L. Flores,Sandra Pampuro,Carlos A. Stortz,Horacio Salomón,Gabriela Turk +8 more
TL;DR: Assays in human PBMC primary cell culture demonstrated that two of the five fractions analysed had potent anti‐HIV‐1 activity both against WT and drug‐resistant HIV‐1 strains.
Journal ArticleDOI
MicroRNAs differentially present in the plasma of HIV elite controllers reduce HIV infection in vitro
Rita Reynoso,Natalia Laufer,Matthias Hackl,Susanna Skalicky,Rossella Monteforte,Gabriela Turk,Mauricio Carobene,Jorge Quarleri,Pedro Cahn,Roland Werner,Heribert Stoiber,Regina Grillari-Voglauer,Johannes Grillari +12 more
TL;DR: Levels of circulating miRNAs might be of diagnostic and/or prognostic value for HIV infection, and hsa-miR-29b-3p and miR-33a-5p may contribute to the design of new anti-HIV drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early Gag Immunodominance of the HIV-Specific T-Cell Response during Acute/Early Infection Is Associated with Higher CD8+ T-Cell Antiviral Activity and Correlates with Preservation of the CD4+ T-Cell Compartment
Gabriela Turk,Yanina Alexandra Ghiglione,Juliana Falivene,María Eugenia Socías,Natalia Laufer,Romina Soledad Coloccini,Ana M. Rodríguez,María Julia Ruiz,María A. Pando,Luis D. Giavedoni,Pedro Cahn,Omar Sued,Horacio Salomón,María Magdalena Gherardi +13 more
TL;DR: The importance of CD8+ T-cell specificity in the improved control of disease progression was related to the capacity of Gag-specific cells to mediate both lytic and nonlytic antiviral mechanisms at early time points postinfection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute retroviral syndrome and high baseline viral load are predictors of rapid HIV progression among untreated Argentinean seroconverters
M. Eugenia Socías,Omar Sued,Natalia Laufer,María Esther Lázaro,Horacio Mingrone,Daniel Pryluka,Carlos Remondegui,María Inés Figueroa,Carina Cesar,Ana Gun,Gabriela Turk,María Belén Bouzas,Ravi Kavasery,Alejandro J. Krolewiecki,Héctor Pérez,Horacio Salomón,Pedro Cahn +16 more
TL;DR: In Argentina, PHI is associated with significant morbidity and HAART should be considered in PHI patients with ARS and high baseline VL to prevent disease progression, according to a multicentre registry of patients diagnosed between 1997 and 2008.
Journal ArticleDOI
HIV type 1 BF recombinant strains exhibit different pol gene mosaic patterns: descriptive analysis from 284 patients under treatment failure.
Jorge Quarleri,Andrea E. Rubio,Mauricio Carobene,Gabriela Turk,Moira Vignoles,Richard Harrigan,Julio S. G. Montaner,Horacio Salomón,Manuel Gómez-Carrillo +8 more
TL;DR: The analysis showed that HIV-1 BF recombinant viruses with diverse mosaic structures are phylogenetically related in their F segments and in selected B fragments with the F1 subtype and with BF recombination viruses from Brazil, respectively, suggesting a common recombinant ancestor.
