TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed that the spatially non-uniform economic development prevalent in most of the countries of the world has created additional pressure on some selected places having relatively higher economic activities, since these places are capable of providing better job opportunities to the people.
Abstract: Human beings and other dynamic living organisms have intrinsic characteristics to migrate in search of better opportunities and continuing survival. This resulted in the initial human settlements on riverbanks or around lakes and at places with adequate water resources. The advent of industrialization has set up a new mechanism in the human migration and settlements. The economy of large-scale production has resulted in the creation of big industries, which often required increased manpower and this option has also caused the centralization of industrial units. The availability of the productive resources and consequently the uneven as well as skewed distribution of industries within a region have destabilized the population equilibrium. It is postulated that, in this manner the rural and urban divide has come into existence and became intense. The continuous movement of human beings into cities from relatively less developed smaller towns and villages, in search of better prospects has been instrumental in the process of urbanization. The spatially non-uniform economic development prevalent in most of the countries of the world has created additional pressure on some selected places having relatively higher economic activities, since these places are capable of providing better job opportunities to the people.
