A controller of the trailer backup assist system generates an available set of backing paths for the trailer based on the proximity of the object and the hitch angle. The available set of backing paths does not include backing paths that cross a space occupied by the object or that cause a jackknife condition between the vehicle and the trailer.

A vehicle trailer tow connector module includes a module housing. A vehicle wiring connector and a trailer wiring connector are coupled to the module housing. A power control circuit is connected to a selected pin in the trailer wiring connector. A controller circuit is coupled to the vehicle wiring connector for receiving communication data from a vehicle data bus, and coupled by control lines to the power control circuit.

A method includes receiving an activation signal at a semiconductor device and generating an output power signal at the semiconductor device in response to receiving the activation signal. The output power signal has a duty cycle. The method also includes providing the output power signal to a load. The output power signal provides power to the load. An amount of power provided to the load is based on the duty cycle of the output power signal. In addition, the method includes adjusting the duty cycle of the output power signal using at least one of a current limiter and a power limiter integrated in the semiconductor device.

A directional load is capable of operating in multiple directions. For example, a directional motor may rotate in clockwise and counterclockwise directions. A directional load driver generates output signals causing the directional load to operate in one of the directions, thereby providing a requested function. The requested function is identified using an input signal, such as a state-encoded input signal. The state-encoded input signal could be received by the directional load driver over a single wire or through a single input pin. Under the control of the directional load driver, the directional load could perform any of a wide variety of functions. In automotive applications, the directional load could open or close a window, lock or unlock a door, or open or close a door. In other applications, the directional load could be used with a residential door lock, a home automation system, or an industrial control.

System and method for analog control of directional motors and other loads

Existing current sense outputs in a power switch can be utilized to output fault diagnosis information. Current sense circuitry that normally drives the current sense output can be disabled, thereby permitting the fault diagnosis information to be output. An existing fault indicator output can be controlled for bidirectional operation, thereby permitting an external controller to control the output of fault diagnosis information on the existing current sense output.
