Abstract: Age-specific correlations between static or isometric strength and body size, i.e. height and weight, in adolescent boys are low to moderate, ranging from +.21 to +.67 (Clarke, 1971; Carron and Bailey, 1974). Correlations between anthropometric dimensions and a variety of motor performance items are generally lower than those for static strength and often negative in events where the body, or a part of it, has to be lifted or projected (Gross and Casciani, 1962; Espenschade, 1963; Clarke, 1971; Montoye et ai., 1972; Ellis et al., 1975). However, maturity and body size are confounded in their effects (Malina, 1975; Beunen et al., 1981), and interrelationships between size and performance must be evaluated in terms of the relationships between maturity status and body dimensions. The purpose of the present study is to examine the age-specific relationships between a variety of motor performance components and anthropometric dimensions within chronologically and skeletally homogeneous age groups. The relationships studied are based on a large representative sample of Belgian schoolboys 12 to 18 years of age.
