Maturity offset in gymnasts: Application of a prediction equation
Robert M. Malina,Albrecht Claessens,Katrijn Van Aken,Martine Thomis,Johan Lefevre,Renaat Philippaerts,Gaston Beunen +6 more
TL;DR: Care is warranted in utilizing maturity offset per se and predicted age at PHV based on maturity offset as an indicator of maturity timing in female gymnasts and perhaps other short females.
Journal Article
Size, fatness and relative fat distribution of males of contrasting maturity status during adolescence and as adults.
Gaston Beunen,Robert M. Malina,Johan Lefevre,Albrecht Claessens,Roland Renson,J. Simons,Hermine H. Maes,Bart Vanreusel,Roeland Lysens +8 more
TL;DR: None of the differences in somatic dimensions and ratios among the three contrasting maturity groups are significant at 30 years of age except those for subscapular skinfold and the trunk/extremity skinfold ratio.
Journal ArticleDOI
Daily physical activity and physical fitness from adolescence to adulthood: A longitudinal study.
Johan Lefevre,Renaat Philippaerts,Katrien Delvaux,Martine Thomis,Bart Vanreusel,Bavo Vanden Eynde,Albrecht Claessens,Roeland Lysens,Roland Renson,Gaston Beunen +9 more
TL;DR: Results from MANOVA indicated that for some fitness characteristics the high‐active subjects were more fit than their low‐active peers, and stability of physical fitness was higher than assumed and, therefore, it is a useful and independent indicator for further research.
Journal ArticleDOI
Skeletal maturation, fundamental motor skills and motor coordination in children 7–10 years
Duarte L. Freitas,Berthold Lausen,José Maia,Johan Lefevre,Élvio R. Gouveia,Martine Thomis,António M. Antunes,Albrecht Claessens,Gaston Beunen,Robert M. Malina +9 more
TL;DR: In conclusion, skeletal age alone or interacting with body size has a negligible influence on fundamental motor skills and motor coordination in children 7–10 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of Participation in High-Impact Sports during Adolescence and Adulthood on Bone Mineral Density in Middle-aged Men: A 27-Year Follow-up Study
Leen Van Langendonck,Johan Lefevre,Albrecht Claessens,Martine Thomis,Renaat Philippaerts,Katrien Delvaux,Roeland Lysens,Roland Renson,Bart Vanreusel,Bavo Vanden Eynde,Jan Dequeker,Gaston Beunen +11 more
TL;DR: Continued participation in impact sports is beneficial for the skeletal health of males aged 40 years and body mass and time spent participating in sports as covariates confirmed these results.
