Water to be purified swirls about a source (78) of ultraviolet radiaton to kill any microorganisms contained therein and flows through a carbon filter cartridge (110) mounted about the ultraviolet source (78) to remove any chlorine and particulate matter The outflow from the carbon filter (112) is again subjected to ultraviolet radiation to kill any microorganisms entrained in the water emanating from the carbon filter (112) An ozone generator (150) may be incorporated to entrain ozone with the inflowing water to enhance killing of any microorganisms present and to oxidize any undesirable compounds

Water purification unit

A waste water treatment system is illustrated which can be configured to be portable and which minimizes the addition of solids to be disposed of through the use of ozone for contaminant reduction to basic elements after the pH value of the waste water to be treated is properly adjusted. This ozone in one stage is combined with ultrasound to cause coagulation and precipitation. In another stage, ozone and ultraviolet light are used in a reduction process. Ion alignment using a magnetic field and an electrochemical flocculation process to which the waste water is subjected causes further coagulation and precipitation. As designed, the system can operate continuously with redundancy at appropriate points so that removal of solids from the filtration units can occur simultaneous with the overall decontamination process.

Industrial waste water treatment

Apparatus for active in situ multi-element gas sparging for bioremediation or physico-chemical degration for removal of contaminants in a soil formation containing a subsurface groundwater aquifer or a substantially wet unsaturated zone, the multi-gas contained in bubbles, wherein the apparatus includes a plurality of injection wells extending to a depth of a selected aquifer; introducing an oxidizing agent comprising ozone mixed with ambient air to provide a multi-element gas by means of microporous diffusers, without applying a vacuum for extraction of stripped products or biodegration by-products, wherein said diffusers form micro-fine bubbles containing said multi-element gas that oxidizes, by stripping and decomposition, chlorinated hydrocarbons from the aquifer and surrounding saturated soil formation into harmless by-products; also including a pump for agitating water in the well selecting microbubbles, injecting them into the aquifer and effective to alter the path of micro-fine bubbles through a porous solid formation whereby enhanced contact between the oxidizing agent contained in each said bubble by stripping pollutant from solution in ambient water into the mini-atmosphere of each bubble effective to increase the efficiency and speed of remediation of a site.

Microporous diffusion apparatus

A reactor system for decontamination of water by photolytic oxidation utilizing near blackbody radiation is disclosed. The system comprises a reaction chamber housing (202) defining an internal space with an inlet (220) and an outlet (224); and a plurality of broadband radiators (230) generating radiant energy with wavelengths between about 150 nm and about 3 νm, the broadband radiators (230) disposed within the reaction chamber housing (202) such that a sufficient dosage of broadband radiation deeply penetrates the water matrix and irradiates the contaminants and/or the oxidant within the internal space of the reaction chamber housing (202) thereby causing photolytic oxidation of the contaminants.

Decontamination of water by photolytic oxidation/reduction utilizing near blackbody radiation

An apparatus includes a frame carrying a process tank, ozone generating tubes, a venturi, and an infusion chamber for treating water with ozone. A pump circulates water from the process tank and through the venturi to the infusion chamber. The infusion chamber is connected immediately downstream from the venturi. The infusion chamber has a predetermined pressure to produce a head space and thereby generate a relatively large number of bubbles of relatively small size to enhance the mass transfer of ozone into the water. A length of tubing is connected downstream from the infusion chamber to enhance the contact time between the ozone and the contaminants. An ozone generator tube including an inner electrode formed of a mass of helical windings produces a high concentration of ozone from a cooled air supply.

Modular ozone water treatment apparatus and associated method

Ozonated liquid is mixed within a multi-stage clarifier system with wastewater to be treated and suspended solids are removed. The clarified effluent is filtered and exposed to ultraviolet radiation. Ozone is injected into the irradiated effluent and received within a contact tower where reaction between the contaminants and ozone takes place. The ultraviolet irradiated, ozonated, and clarified liquid is recirculated through an ozone injector and discharged through a mixer plate into a purge chamber. The purge chamber effluent is split, with a portion returning to the contact tower and passing through a second ultraviolet radiation source, and the remaining purge chamber effluent being distributed within the clarifiers. After a predetermined residence within the system, a diverter valve in the return line is operable to discharge the treated water through a carbon filter and out of the system. The recirculation of the UV irradiated ozonated liquid provides both effective solids removal and reaction of the contaminants with the ozone to produce an acceptable treated water.
