Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Selenium Biofortification and Beneficial Microorganism Inoculation on Yield, Quality and Antioxidant Properties of Shallot Bulbs

TL;DR: The results of this investigation showed that both AMF and selenium application represent environmentally friendly strategies to enhance the overall yield and quality performances of shallot bulbs, as well as their seenium content.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of organic vs. conventional farming system on yield and quality of strawberry grown as an annual or biennial crop in southern Italy

TL;DR: Assessing the effects of two farming systems (organic or conventional) combined with propagation material (fresh or cold stored plants) and crop duration (annual or biennial) on yield and quality found the biennial crop duration could be a cost effective option when the crop is started fromcold stored plants under organic management.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of cultural cycles and nutrient solutions on plant growth, yield and fruit quality of alpine strawberry (Fragaria vesca L.) grown in hydroponics

TL;DR: Alpine strawberry was grown in hydroponics with the nutrient film technique to evaluate the effects of four buffer concentrations and two cultural cycles in terms of growth, yield and fruit quality, finding the 1.3 mS cm −1 nutrient solution was the most effective interms of overall and spring production.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of transplanting time and plant density on yield, quality and antioxidant content of onion (Allium cepa L.) in southern Italy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the effects of four transplanting times (1 February, 16 February, 3 March, 18 March) and three plant densities (21.2, 27.2 and 38.1 ) on the growth, productivity and bulb quality indicators (size, dry weight, soluble solids content, sugars, acids, amino acids, antioxidants, mineral composition) of long-day onion crops, cultivar “Ramata di Montoro”.
Journal ArticleDOI

Yield, Quality and Antioxidant Properties of Indian Mustard (Brassica juncea L.) in Response to Foliar Biofortification with Selenium and Iodine

TL;DR: Both joint and separate application of Se and I led to synergism between these elements in: inhibiting nitrate accumulation; stimulating flavonoids biosynthesis (2–2.3 times compared to control plants) as well as Al and B accumulation; decreasing Cd and Sr concentrations.
