Journal ArticleDOI
A shared protocol for porcine surfactant use in pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome: a feasibility study.
Andrea Wolfler,Marco Piastra,Angela Amigoni,Pierantonio Santuz,Eloisa Gitto,Emanuele Rossetti,Carmine Tinelli,Cinzia Montani,Fabio Savron,Simone Pizzi,Luigia D'amato,Maria Cristina Mondardini,Giorgio Conti,Annalisa De Silvestri +13 more
TL;DR: The use of porcine Surfactant improves oxygenation, P/F ratio, OI and pH in a population of children with moderate or severe pARDS caused by multiple diseases in a multicenter retrospective observational study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Uncommon barotrauma while on high-flow nasal cannula.
TL;DR: High-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy (HFNC) as long been considered a safe treatment, hence the term “gentle CPAP” partly describing its mechanism, but in young infants mediastinal displacement may occur both as a result of air leak syndromes and interstitial emphysema, as in this case.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ex Vivo Effect of Varespladib on Secretory Phospholipase A2 Alveolar Activity in Infants with ARDS
Daniele De Luca,Angelo Minucci,Marco Piastra,Paola Cogo,Francesca Vendittelli,Laura Marzano,Leonarda Gentile,Bruno Giardina,Giorgio Conti,Ettore Capoluongo +9 more
TL;DR: Varespladib significantly inhibits sPLA2 in BAL of infants affected by post-neonatal ARDS, and inhibition seems to be inversely related to the severity of gas exchange impairment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measles-induced respiratory distress, air-leak and ARDS.
Marco Piastra,Roberta Onesimo,Daniele De Luca,L. Lancella,L. Marzano,G. De Rosa,Domenico Pietrini,Piero Valentini,Giorgio Conti +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that early respiratory assessment and timely PICU referral is of mainstem importance in the youngest infants with measles-induced respiratory failure and the protean nature of clinical presentation and the possibility of rapid respiratory deterioration should be highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nusinersen in type 0 spinal muscular atrophy: should we treat?
Eloisa Tiberi,Simonetta Costa,Marika Pane,Marika Pane,Francesca Priolo,Roberto De Sanctis,Domenico M. Romeo,Domenico M. Romeo,Francesco Danilo Tiziano,Giorgio Conti,Giovanni Vento,Eugenio Mercuri,Eugenio Mercuri +12 more
TL;DR: These findings, expanding the results available on Nusinersen, confirm its relative efficacy in the most severely affected infants and provide clinical evidence to be used at the time requests for treating severe infants are discussed.
