Solitary wave-induced forces on horizontal circular cylinders: Laboratory experiments and SPH simulations

TL;DR: In this paper, a battery of pressure transducers was mounted along the external contour of a cylinder placed at half water depth, while four wave gauges were located close to the cylinder and an ultrasonic sensor behind the paddle to measure its displacement.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydrodynamic forces induced by a solitary wave interacting with a submerged square barrier: Physical tests and δ-LES-SPH simulations

TL;DR: In this paper, a laboratory and numerical investigation on the features of the horizontal and vertical hydrodynamic loads given by a solitary wave on a submerged square barrier is presented, where the wave forces were deduced from the records of a discrete battery of pressure sensors located along the external surface of the barrier.
Journal ArticleDOI

On-Bottom Stability Analysis of Cylinders under Tsunami-Like Solitary Waves

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of 30 physical model tests was conducted in the wave channel of the University of Calabria in which a rigid circular cylinder was equipped with 12 pressure transducers placed along its external surface to determine the wave loads, with three wave gauges to record the surface elevation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Beach profile evolution in front of storm seawalls : a physical and numerical study

TL;DR: In this article, large-scale physical experiments were performed at the new Delta Flume in 2017, aimed at investigating wave impacts on a vertical wall placed on the top of a dike in a mild slope shallow foreshore.
Journal ArticleDOI

An experimental and numerical study on solitary wave loads at cylinders near the bed

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental and numerical investigation on the horizontal and vertical hydrodynamic forces given by solitary waves on horizontal circular cylinders placed near a rigid horizontal bed was conducted in the wave channel of the University of Calabria in which twelve pressure sensors were installed along the external surface of a cylinder located at gap-to-diameter ratios equal to 0.25 and 0.1.
