System and methodology for managing internet access on a per application basis for client computers connected to the internet

TL;DR: In this paper, a client-based monitoring and filtering of access to an open network, such as a WAN or the Internet, is described, which includes one or more clients, each operating application or process (e.g., Netscape Navigator™ or Microsoft Internet Explorer™ browser software) requiring Internet (or other open network) access, and a centralized enforcement supervisor.

Databank system with methods for efficiently storing non uniforms data records

Abstract: System and methods are described for efficient storage and processing of non-uniform data records. An exemplary embodiment includes a Databank system having a Database Engine, a Database Engine API (Application Program Interface), a Databank Engine, a Databank Engine Class Interface, and a Databank (storage). The Databank storage itself comprises a Descriptor Table (Form Definition) and a Data Repository. The Descriptor Table comprises a plurality of field descriptors for characterizing user information stored in the Databank. The Data Repository, on the other hand, stores the actual data from the non-uniform data records. It comprises "static" fields and a "dynamic" field. The static fields store core fields necessary for characterizing each data record (irrespective of what type of information a given data record stores). User data are stored in a structured, pre-defined manner using logical fields (or "subfields") of the dynamic field. The system correctly interprets the dynamic contents based on the information stored in the descriptors. Methods are described for storing and retrieving information from the Databank in a manner which is transparent to clients, thus allowing the Databank subsystem to easily replace existing storage subsystems.

System providing internet access management with router-based policy enforcement

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a computing environment with methods for monitoring access to an open network such as the Internet, which includes one or more client computers, each operating application (e.g., Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer) requiring access to the open network, and a router or other equipment that serves a routing function for the client computers.

System methodology for automatic local network discovery and firewall reconfiguration for mobile computing devices

TL;DR: In this article, a system for automatically detecting when a computing device is plugged into a new network is described, which includes methods for detecting a connection to new network by receiving notice of, and evaluating, changes to an existing network configuration.

System and methodology for providing community-based security policies

TL;DR: In this article, a system and methodology for providing community-based security policies is described, and a security module is provided for establishing security settings for regulating network access at these devices.
