An eyepiece includes a mechanical frame adapted to secure a lens and an image source facility above the lens. The image source facility includes an LED, a planar illumination facility and a reflective display. The planar illumination facility converts a light beam from the LED received on a side of the planar illumination facility into a top emitting planar light source, uniformly illuminates the reflective display, and is substantially transmissive to allow reflected light to pass through towards a beam splitter. The beam splitter is positioned to receive the image light and to reflect a portion onto a mirrored surface. The mirrored surface is positioned and shaped to reflect the image light into an eye of a user of the eyepiece thereby providing an image within a field of view, the mirrored surface further adapted to be partially transmissive within an area of image reflectance.

Device Assisted Services (DAS) for protecting network capacity is provided. The bidirectional power conversion circuit is reconfigurable to rectify an induced current received at the antenna into DC power and to induce resonance at the antenna in response to DC power.

A method, transceiver integrated circuit (IC), and communications device for generating antenna tuning states derived from a pre-established trajectory of tuning states to adjust a detected signal level towards a preset, given value. A tuning state generation (TSG) controller determines whether a detected signal level matches a given value. If the detected signal level does not match the given value, the TSG controller selects an initial preset tuning state from a pre-established trajectory corresponding to a pre-identified operating condition that best matches a current operating condition. The TSG logic forwards the initial preset tuning state to the antenna tuner to trigger impedance transformation. Following generation of the initial preset tuning state, the controller receives an updated detected signal level. If the updated detected signal level fails to match the given value, the controller generates an incremental tuning state that is interpolated between the initial and a final preset tuning states.

A method and device for extending the useful life of an energy storage device, for a mobile computing device is described. The method ( 150 ) can include the steps of: running ( 155 ) a first application in synchronous communication with a first application server; detecting ( 160 ) energy expenditure while running the first application; and synchronizing ( 165 ) a subsequent application based on the detected energy expenditure, by: continuing to communicate with the subsequent application if the detected energy expenditure is below a threshold, and discontinuing communication if the detected energy expenditure is above a threshold. Advantageously, this method can provide substantial energy savings in mobile computing device applications.

An amplifier contains an RF generated negative supply wherein the RF input of the negative generator is connected to the RF input of a first power amplifier stage. This arrangement allows the power supplies to be turned-on in the correct order, thus, avoiding any damage to the transistors or power supply. After the RF input turns on and the RF generated negative supply turns on, the power amplifier transistors are biased such that no current will flow from the drain to the grounded source. The power amplifier also features the ability to adjust the biasing voltage by increasing Vcontrol so that the bias current from the main supply can be controlled. Since the output power of the amplifier is monotonic with biasing current over the useful range of gate voltages, the output power can thereby be controlled by adjusting the control voltage. Additionally, the negative biasing voltage can be increased to the point where bias current from the main supply is at the correct level to achieve the desired output power. Depending on the required output power control range, it may be necessary to use a voltage controllable attenuator, VCA, to simultaneously adjust the RF level into the amplifier while adjusting the biasing voltage.

A method of maintaining application continuity (900) and mobile computing device (200) are described. The method involves a mobile device running an application in synchronous communication with an application server. The application has a threshold communication null period for maintaining application continuity. The method (900) can include the steps of: operating (910) the application in synchronous communication with an application server, defining an active mode, wherein the synchronous communication is automatically enabled; providing (920) a dormant mode wherein the synchronous communication is automatically disabled in the mobile device for a predetermined duration; and interrupting (930) the dormant mode by momentarily communicating with the application server prior to a threshold communication null period, for maintaining application continuity. Advantageously, prior to a threshold period of communication inactivity, the dormant mode can be interrupted to maintain application connectivity, so the server will not stop the application and data will not be lost.
