We present the state of the art regarding the relation between the physics of Quantum Black Holes and Noncommutative Geometry. We start with a review of models proposed in the literature for describing deformations of General Relativity in the presence of noncommutativity, seen as an effective theory of Quantum Gravity. We study the resulting metrics, proposed to replace or at least to improve the conventional black hole solutions of Einstein's equation. In particular, we analyze noncommutative-inspired solutions obtained in terms of quasi-classical noncommutative coordinates: indeed because of their surprising new features, these solutions enable us to circumvent long standing problems with Quantum Field Theory in Curved Space and to cure the singular behavior of gravity at the centers of black holes. As a consequence, for the first time, we get a complete description of what we may call the black hole SCRAM, the shut down of the emission of thermal radiation from the black hole: in place of the conventional scenario of runaway evaporation in the Planck phase, we find a zero temperature final state, a stable black hole remnant, whose size and mass are determined uniquely in terms of the noncommutative parameter $\theta$. This result turns out to be of vital importance for the physics of the forthcoming experiments at the LHC, where mini black hole production is foreseen in extreme energy hadron collisions. Because of this, we devote the final part of this review to higher dimensional solutions and their phenomenological implications for TeV Gravity.

Ivanov pointed out substantial analytical difficulties associated with self-gravitating, static, isotropic fluid spheres when pressure explicitly depends on matter density. Simplifications achieved with the introduction of electric charge were noticed as well. We deal with self-gravitating, charged, anisotropic fluids and get even more flexibility in solving the Einstein-Maxwell equations. In order to discuss analytical solutions we extend Krori and Barua's method to include pressure anisotropy and linear or nonlinear equations of state. The field equations are reduced to a system of three algebraic equations for the anisotropic pressures as well as matter and electrostatic energy densities. Attention is paid to compact sources characterized by positive matter density and positive radial pressure. Arising solutions satisfy the energy conditions of general relativity. Spheres with vanishing net charge contain fluid elements with unbounded proper charge density located at the fluid-vacuum interface. Notably the electric force acting on these fluid elements is finite, although the acting electric field is zero. Net charges can be huge (${10}^{19}C$) and maximum electric field intensities are very large (${10}^{23}--{10}^{24}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{statvolt}/\mathrm{cm}$) even in the case of zero net charge. Inward-directed fluid forces caused by pressure anisotropy may allow equilibrium configurations with larger net charges and electric field intensities than those found in studies of charged isotropic fluids. Links of these results with charged strange quark stars as well as models of dark matter including massive charged particles are highlighted. The van der Waals equation of state leading to matter densities constrained by cubic polynomial equations is briefly considered. The fundamental question of stability is left open.

Charged anisotropic matter with linear or nonlinear equation of state

The full set of equations governing the structure and the evolution of self-gravitating spherically symmetric dissipative fluids with anisotropic stresses is written down in terms of five scalar quantities obtained from the orthogonal splitting of the Riemann tensor, in the context of general relativity. It is shown that these scalars are directly related to fundamental properties of the fluid distribution, such as energy density, energy density inhomogeneity, local anisotropy of pressure, dissipative flux, and the active gravitational mass. It is also shown that in the static case, all possible solutions to Einstein equations may be expressed explicitly through these scalars. Some solutions are exhibited to illustrate this point.

Structure and evolution of self-gravitating objects and the orthogonal splitting of the Riemann tensor

Stars can be treated as self-gravitating fluid. Krori and Barua (J. Phys. A., Math. Gen. 8:508, 1975) gave an analytical solution to that kind of fluids. In this connection, we propose a de Sitter model for an anisotropic strange star with the Krori–Barua spacetime. We incorporate the existence of the cosmological constant on a small scale to study the structure of anisotropic strange stars and come to the conclusion that this doping is very well compatible with the well-known physical features of strange stars.

Using the the concept of cracking we explore the influence of density fluctuations and local anisotropy have on the stability of local and non-local anisotropic matter configurations in general relativity. This concept, conceived to describe the behaviour of a fluid distribution just after its departure from equilibrium, provides an alternative approach to consider the stability of selfgravitating compact objects. We show that potentially unstable regions within a configuration can be identify as a function of the difference of propagations of sound along tangential and radial directions. In fact, it is found that these regions could occur when, at particular point within the distribution, the tangential speed of sound is greater than radial one.
