On the rate-controlling mechanism for plastic flow of Mg crystals at low temperatures

TL;DR: In this paper, the deformation rate of a magnesium single crystal was investigated by differential type creep and constant strain rate tests in the range 78-364°K, and it was shown that the rate controlling mechanism is the intersection of dislocations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cottrell locking and the flow stress in iron

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of temperature and grain size on the yield and flow stress of electrolytic iron at a constant structure was investigated, and it was found that the flow stress σ ƒι for a strain beyond the Luders strain obeyed the equation σ tfι 1 (T) + σ TFι 2 (st) + kd −1 2 where st represents the structure due to strain, solute atoms, precipitates, etc., and d is the grain diameter.

An investigation of the rate controlling mechanism for plastic flow of copper crystals at 90° and 170°K

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the plastic flow characteristics of copper single crystals at 90° and 170°K by means of incremental loading creep tests and change-in-strain-rate tension tests for the purpose of determining whether the intersection of dislocations is the rate controlling process in low temperature deformation.
