A printed field-effect transistor (FET) is reported, in which all the essential components are screen-printed for the first time. This transistor has a polyimide dielectric layer, a regioregular poly(3-alkythiophene) semiconducting layer, and two silver electrodes, all of which are printed on an ITO-coated plastic substrate.

High-performance plastic transistors fabricated by printing techniques

We take familiar inorganic oxide glasses and non-oxide glasses and the liquids from which they derive to review the current understanding of their atomic structure, ranging from the local environments of individual atoms to the long-range order which can cover many interatomic distances. The structural characteristics of important glasses and melts, like silicates, borates, alumino-silicates, halides and chalcogenides, are drawn from the results of recent spectroscopy and scattering experiments. The techniques include Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS), Neutron Scattering (NS) and Small- and Wide-angle X-ray Scattering measurements (SAXS/WAXS), and are often combined with computer simulation experiments in order to obtain detailed images of structure and diffusion in the glassy as well as in the molten state. Ultrafast all-optical chalcogenide glass photonic circuits

It was found that chalcogenide glasses can be shaped by stressing the glass under light illumination because light illumination enhances the fluidity of the glass. The mechanism of photoinduced fluidity was found to be photoelectronic, that is, athermal. The process can be applied to microfabrication of optical fibers and glassy films with a typical dimension of 10 to 100 micrometers.

Optical Microfabrication of Chalcogenide Glasses

Convex microlenses with diameters of 10–100 μm and focal lengths longer than ~5 μm have been produced in chalcogenide glasses with light illumination only. In As2S3 glass the lens can be formed with exposure of focused light from a 10-mW He–Ne laser for 100 s. The fabrication process is athermal, and the lens can be erased by annealing.

Optical fabrication of microlenses in chalcogenide glasses.

Bragg gratings have been fabricated in As2S3 optical fibers through the photoinduced refractive-index change process. Bragg filters in the fiber show a more-ideal response than those fabricated in the corresponding bulk material. Some features characteristic of chalcogenide fibers and Ge-doped oxide fibers are discussed comparatively.
