Journal ArticleDOI

Selection and Evaluation of Pea Aphid-Resistant Alfalfa Plants

TL;DR: Although some of the techniques presented were applicable to field conditions under natural aphid infestation, the advantage of greenhouse screening and evaluation in the seedling stage is evident.

Breeding for resistance to greenbug, chinch bug and maize dwarf mosaic in sorghum

TL;DR: Economic populations of chinch bugs, Blissus Leucopterus (Say), are more sporadic and localised than greenbug infestations that occur most years, but substantial yield losses have occured from greenbug, Schizapus graminum (Randani), infestation of the sorghum crop over a wide geographical area.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanical Insect Dispenser for Infesting Plants with Greenbugs (Homoptera: Aphididae)

TL;DR: Infestations produced by greenbug releases from the inoculator were more uniform than those obtained by mass infestation methods and preliminary observations suggest that the technique also may be useful to infest plant with other aphid species and some Hemiptera.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dispersal of Alate Biotype C Greenbugs in Kansas

TL;DR: Flight patterns indicated that early planting of both wheat and sorghum should be avoided, and the numbers of greenbugs collected decreased; however, strips of green wheat did not provide practical protection to adjacent bordering areas.
