Experimental Study of Channel Patterns

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of experiments were performed in a large flume to determine the effect of slope and sediment load on channel patterns, and the results indicated that landforms may not always respond progressively to altered conditions and dramatic morphologic changes can occur abruptly when critical erosional and (or) depositional threshold values are exceeded.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental study of channel patterns.

TL;DR: Channel patterns are described as being braided, meandering, or straight with braided rivers having steeper gradients than meandering rivers at the same discharge, and the last two can be related to the higher velocity and greater tractive force associated with steep gradients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Variability of River Patterns

TL;DR: In this article, the dependence of river patterns on sediment load and on the inclination of the surface on which the model river flows was studied and it was shown that at a constant discharge very different channel patterns are formed at different slopes.
