More People are Turning to Photovoltaic (PV) technology to supply energy needs as concerns rise about greenhouse gases. Thus, installed PV capacity across the smart grid distribution systems has been rising. However, the high penetration of PVs could affect the operation and planning of distribution networks. To evaluate the impact of PVs connected to the grid, a case study on power quality and voltage profile was conducted using a 1.1-MW ac gridconnected PV power plant in Miami, Florida. As part of the power quality analysis, total harmonic distortion (THD) was explored, and high-power and high-energy ramp rate analyses were made.

High-Penetration Grid-Tied Photovoltaics: Analysis of Power Quality and Feeder Voltage Profile

In the restructured environment, distributed generation (DG) is considered as a very promising option due to a high initial capital cost of conventional plants, environmental concerns, and power shortage. Apart from the above, distributed generation (DG) has also abilities to improve performance of feeder. Most of the distribution feeders have radial structure, which compel to observe the impact of distributed generations on feeder performance, having different characteristics and composition of time varying static ZIP load models. Two fuzzy-based expert system is proposed for selecting and ranking the most appropriated periods to an integration of distributed generations with a feeder. Madami type fuzzy logic controller was developed for sizing of distributed generation, whereas Sugeno type fuzzy logic controller was developed for the DG location. Input parameters for Madami fuzzy logic controller are substation reserve capacity, feeder power loss to load ratio, voltage unbalance, and apparent power imbalances. DG output, survivability index, and node distance from substation are chosen as input to Sugeno type fuzzy logic controller. The stochastic performance of proposed fuzzy expert systems was evaluated on a modified IEEE 37 node test feeder with 15 minutes characteristics time interval varying static ZIP load models.

Fuzzy Logic Controller Based Distributed Generation Integration Strategy for Stochastic Performance Improvement

An imprecise demand rate creates problems in profit optimization in business scenarios. The aim is to nullify the imprecise nature of the demand rate with the help of the cloudy fuzzy method. Traditionally, all items in an ordered lot are presumed to be of good quality. However, the delivered lot may contain some defective items, which may occur during production or maintenance. Inspection of an ordered lot is indispensable in most organizations and can be treated as a type of learning. The learning demonstration, a statistical development expressing declining cost, is necessary to achieve any cyclical process. Further, defective items are sold immediately after the screening process as a single lot at a discounted price, and the fraction of defective items follows an S-shaped learning curve. The trade-credit policy is adequate for suppliers and retailers to maximize their profit during business. In this paper, an inventory model is developed with learning and trade-credit policy under the cloudy fuzzy environment where the demand rate is treated as a cloudy fuzzy number. Finally, the retailer’s total profit is maximized with respect to order quantity. Sensitivity analysis is presented to estimate the robustness of the model.

Optimal Sizing and Placement of Distributed Generators for Profit Maximization Using Firefly Algorithm

In this paper, the impact of distributed generation (DG) integration on worst stochastic voltage stability margin is investigated for a modified IEEE 37 node test system. This unbalance test system has voltage sensitive load model for industrial, commercial and residential consumers and load flow computed in MATLAB environment with 15 minutes metering time interval for a whole day. DG integration is based on fuzzy expert system and integrated between 35 to 73 period of metering time interval. The stochastic voltage

The focus of this paper is to present performance indices for unbalance radial feeder having different characteristic and composition of time varying static ZIP load models. These provide a framework for benchmarking of distribution automation projects. 15 minutes characteristics time interval for load flow and load modeling are considered to meet smart grid implementation criterion. A forward-backward sweep method is employed for load flow solution. Developed performance indices were illustrated on modified IEEE 37 node test feeder. Performance indices are useful for analysis, operational, planning and integration of stochastic renewable sources.
