TL;DR: The net release of alanine relative to that of phenylalanine was not significantly greater in the burn patients, consistent with the conclusion that relative to the net rat of proteolysis, transamination of branched-chain amino acids in skeletal muscle is not increased in burn patients.

TL;DR: The results suggest that in limbs with claudication, significant skin hypoxia may exist during rest in spite of reportedly normal skin and muscle blood flow.
Abstract: Using a Kontron Roche Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitor, we measured oxygen tension on the skin of the legs at three sites in patients with peripheral vascular disease and group of controls. Significant decreases in oxygen tension occurred in the patient groups, which correlated well with ankle systolic pressure, with differences between those with claudication and those with rest pain. These results suggest that in limbs with claudication, significant skin hypoxia may exist during rest in spite of reportedly normal skin and muscle blood flow. The progressive decrease in skin oxygen tension down a limb with occlusive vascular disease may play a significant role in skin healing.

TL;DR: This is believed to be the first documented case of ACTH-producing neuroendocrine carcinoma (trabecular carcinoma), occurring in the cheek of an 80-year-old woman.
Abstract: A case of ACTH-producing cutaneous neuroendocrine carcinoma occurring in the cheek of an 80-year-old woman is reported. The tumor was composed of undifferentiated cells which had a uniform round nucleus and scanty cytoplasm containing argyrophil granules. An ultrastructural study demonstrated neurosecretory-type granules in the cytoplasm of the tumor cells. Radioimmunoassay revealed an elevated level of ACTH in tumor tissue as well as in the plasma of the patient. This is believed to be the first documented case of ACTH-producing neuroendocrine carcinoma (trabecular carcinoma) of the skin.

TL;DR: In the dose and schedule used in this study, tamoxifen is ineffective in patients with advanced malignant melanoma and prior chemotherapy exposure.
Abstract: Seventeen patients with disseminated malignant melanoma received a daily oral regimen of tamoxifen, 100 mg/m2. All patients had prior chemotherapy and predominantly visceral involvement. None of the patients had an objective regression and most (71%) had progressive disease at the time of first reassessment. Moderate to severe nausea occurred in 24% of patients. In the dose and schedule used in this study, tamoxifen is ineffective in patients with advanced malignant melanoma and prior chemotherapy exposure.
