Aspects of the invention provide a transflective liquid crystal display device that prevents display failure, such as an afterimage and unevenness like stains, and achieves a bright display with a wide viewing angle in both transmissive display and reflective display. The liquid crystal display device of the invention is a vertically-aligned transflective liquid crystal display device having a multigap structure. Each pixel can include, in a dot region, a plurality of islands, and connecting portions for electrically connecting the adjoining islands. Two islands, of the islands, can be disposed in a transmissive display region, and the remaining island is disposed in a reflective display region. A boundary sloping area in which the thickness of a liquid crystal layer continuously changes is disposed right below the connecting portion in the pixel electrode.

Liquid crystal device and electronic apparatus

A multiple view display comprises a display device which displays first and second images in a spatially multiplexed fashion across the display surface. The device cooperates with a parallax optic such as a lenticular screen so as to act as a directional display sub-system directing light from the first and second images in different viewing directions. An optical system, for example comprising a lenticular screen of diverging elements, changes the angular separation of the viewing angle directions, for example so as to increase the angular separation.

Multiple-view directional display

A drive circuit of an image display apparatus has a correction circuit for outputting driving data that is corrected on the basis of a correction value. The correction value is a correction value that corrects variation of brightness of a plurality of pixels. The correction on the basis of the correction value is a correction such that the number of pixels to be darkened by the correction when the driving data inputted for the plurality of pixels have a common first value is fewer than the number of pixels to be darkened by the correction when the driving data inputted for the plurality of pixels have a common second value larger than the first value.

Image Display Apparatus

A multiple view display comprises a display device and a plurality of converging lenses, such as a lenticular screen. Each lens cooperates with a respective region of the display device comprising one or more pixels (L) for displaying part of a first image for viewing in a first viewing region (Region 2 windows) and second pixels (R) for displaying part of a second image for viewing in a second region (Region 1 windows). The second pixels (R) are spaced horizontally from the first pixels (L). Each lens comprises first and second portions (Region 1, Region 2) extending vertically and parallel to each other and having lens centres (Lens Centre 1, Lens Centre 2) spaced apart horizontally. Each lens forming first and second images of the respective region of the display device, the first and second images being displaced from one another in the horizontal direction.

Multiple view display

A three-dimensional display device includes an image display portion displaying a left eye image and a right eye image; and a parallax barrier facing the image display portion and directing the left eye image and the right eye image displayed by the image display portion towards a left eye and a right eye of a user, respectively. The parallax barrier may be formed with a liquid crystal display of a normally black mode of transmission.

Three-dimensional display device

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a sense of fatigue at the time of continuing to look at a stereoscopic image for a long time by keeping the difference, between a distance to a contemplating point that man understands by congestion adjustment and a distance to a virtual image that man understands by focusing, within a permitted limit. SOLUTION: A line-of-sight detecting part 4 always monitors the eyeball motion of both eyes, detects the directions of the lines of sight of left/right eyes to the surface of displayed image as a virtual image and calculates the congestion angle of the eye. A congestion distance arithmetic part 5 finds a distance to the contemplating point from the congestion angle and a control part 6 determines the amount and direction for moving the surface of displayed image back and forth to both eyes based on the distance while keeping the displaying size of the surface of displayed image always constant as it is. A driving part 7 moves an image display part 2 and an image forming optical system 3 based on the determined moving amount and moving direction. Consequently, the distance obtained by focusing is made to bring close to the distance to the contemplating point which is recognized by an observer by using the congestion adjustment and unpleasantness due to the discordance of both distances is reduced.

Stereoscopic display device

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain polarizing ability even though a polarizing layer is incorporated, to view a stereoscopic picture by many people by means of a pair of less expensive and light polarizing glasses, and to eliminate cross talk occurring in accordance with the movement of the head of an observer so as to observe a good stereoscopic picture. SOLUTION: The polarizing layer 102a for a right eye and the polarizing layer 102b for a left eye are formed on a glass substrate 101a, and a transference electrode 104a is formed on the layers 102a and 102b in contact with a liquid crystal layer 107. A color filter 105, the polarizing layer 106a for the right eye and the polarizing layer 106b for the left eye are formed on the other glass substrate 101b, and the transference electrode 104b is formed on the layers 102a and 102b in contact with the layer 107.

Stereoscopic picture display device

PURPOSE: To reduce an apparatus scale, and to obtain a method and an apparatus for adhering an optical member by simplifying by pressure reducing in a pressure vessel while maintaining the sealing of the periphery of the one surface of an adhering member with the vessel, and pressurizing the one surface of the member by atmospheric pressure. CONSTITUTION: Since an adhering member 4 to be adhered via an adhesive is supported in a pressure vessel 13 and the residual part of the surface is exposed to the atmosphere while maintaining the sealing between the periphery of the one surface of the member 4 and the vessel 13, when a valve 19 is opened and a vacuum pump 21 is operated, the vessel 13 is depressurized, one transparent member 3 is pressurized by atmospheric pressure, and bubble of an ultraviolet curable adhesive 2 is evacuated. The valve 19 and the pump 21 are coupled by an elastic tube 20 so that the vibration of the pump 21 is not transmitted to the member 4.

Method and apparatus for adhering

PURPOSE:To make a small low-pressure mercury discharge lamp favorably light without preheating the hot cathode by adjusting the outer diameter of th sealed body, the pressure of charging gas and the electric power consumption of the lamp to be within specified ranges. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent lamp (L) is made by charging a sealed body 1 having an outer diameter of (D) with mercury and a rare gas at a pressure of within the range of 25-50 Torr. A hot cathode 2 and an anode 3 are installed facing each other in the end sealing areas of the sealed body 1. Bases 4 and 5 fused to the ends of the sealed body have electrode terminals 8a and 8c electrically connected to the hot cathode 2 and the anode 3 respectively. The outer diameter of the sealed body 1 is adjusted to be at most 10mm and the electric power consumption of the lamp (L) is adjusted to be at most 4W. This lamp (L) can perform arc discharge with a sufficiently low power supply voltage without any necessity of preheating the hot cathode 2.

Small low-pressure mercury discharge tube

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of realizing a bright and high-resolution display and suitable for miniaturization/lightening and cost reduction, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The display device is equipped with a display panel 10G having a display surface regulated by a plurality of pixel areas, each of which can modulate light, an optical shift element 20 capable of shifting the optical axis of the light emitted from the display surface, and a lens 30 receiving the light emitted from the element 20. The width H a1 of the end on the light emitting side of the element 20 in the up-and-down direction of the display surface and the width H a2 of the end on the light emitting side of the element 20 in the right-and-left direction of the display surface are regulated in accordance with the spread angle of the light emitted from the end of the display surface and the angle of view of the lens.
