Basics of qualitative research: Grounded theory procedures and techniques

Following the 2016 U.S. presidential election, many have expressed concern about the effects of false stories (“fake news”), circulated largely through social media. We discuss the economics of fake news and present new data on its consumption prior to the election. Drawing on web browsing data, archives of fact-checking websites, and results from a new online survey, we find: (i) social media was an important but not dominant source of election news, with 14 percent of Americans calling social media their “most important” source; (ii) of the known false news stories that appeared in the three months before the election, those favoring Trump were shared a total of 30 million times on Facebook, while those favoring Clinton were shared 8 million times; (iii) the average American adult saw on the order of one or perhaps several fake news stories in the months around the election, with just over half of those who recalled seeing them believing them; and (iv) people are much more likely to believe stories that favor their preferred candidate, especially if they have ideologically segregated social media networks.

Fake news as a two-dimensional phenomenon: a framework and research agenda

In recent decades, Internet of Things (IOT) has been widely used in the communication of equipment and resources. An important and appropriate application of this technology includes medical devices and resources. With the aid of this technology, the services provided for the end user for example, the patients admitted to the hospital will have greater speed and accuracy. Further, in the necessary care of chronic diseases or extensive applications like services for the elderly or applications requiring momentary knowledge on a large scale and in the online form, using this technology is undoubtedly a great help to better do the job. Journalism Education in Post-Truth Era: Pedagogical Approaches Based on Indian Journalism Students’ Perception of Fake News:

The rate of adoption of mobile phones by the masses as a preferred mode of communication is on an upward spiral across the globe and India is no exception. Mobile devices have now acquired the status of a basic need instead of being just an auxiliary and luxury gadget. Mobile networks are the most pervasive communication platform that exists today and could be used as one of the most efficacious media to interconnect providers, practitioners and other stakeholders to a substantially large number of consumers in the healthcare system. This study emphasizes the inter-connectedness between mobile phone services and access to the healthcare in this century of rapid information and human circulation. This article simultaneously explores the ‘potentialities’ of mHealth in improving the outreach of health based service facilities.

The emerging interface of healthcare system and mobile communication technologies

Data journalism is emerging as a new subspecialty in Indian journalism. Indian data journalism practice is in nascent stage and newsrooms have lately started recognizing it as a new practice. There were specific issues and challenges faced by journalists in western news rooms as they adopted the practice. To generate a comparative perspective, the study carried out semi-structured interviews with Indian data journalists about their perceptions on the challenges of practicing data journalism. The results show that there are external and internal bottlenecks in practicing data journalism in India. While irregular data releases, use of unfriendly formats by governmental authorities is a major concern; reluctance of media organizations to invest in data teams is identified as an internal challenge. Indian data journalists are skeptical about the audience’s participatory potential, which has restricted them from relying on practices like crowd-sourcing.
