Discontinuous fibers are coated with binder and solid particulate materials are adhered to the fibers by the binder. The fibers are typically substantially continuously coated with the binder. The binder material may be heat bondable and the treated fibers may be mixed with other fibers for use in producting a wide variety of structures and products.

Binder coated discontinuous fibers with adhered particulate materials

Discontinuous fibers are coated with a binder material with the binder material adhering the fibers to super absorbent particles. Fibers in the product are substantially unbonded except to the super absorbent particles. The binder may be present at an amount which is sufficient to substantially continuously coat the fibers. Plural coatings of various binder materials may be used. The binder material may be heat fusible or heat curable and the treated fibers mixed with other fibers for use in producing a wide variety of products.

A method for producing a stretch-thinned elastic article having dimensional stability over time and at elevated temperatures in which a thermoplastic block copolymer is melt-processed into a stretchable article such as a film or fiber. The article is then conditioned at an elevated temperature greater than or equal to a glass transition temperature (Tg) of a hard phase of the thermoplastic block copolymer. The article is stretch-thinned at the elevated temperature to a desired percentage stretch, forming a stretch-thinned article, after which it is cooled to a temperature below the glass transition temperature of the hard phase of the thermoplastic block copolymer. Films produced by this method are suitable for use in durable and disposable articles including personal care articles such as diapers, incontinence wear, training pants, and feminine care articles, as well as wound dressings, wipes, towels, napkins, and protective apparel.

Dimensionally stable, breathable, stretch-thinned, elastic films

Discontinuous fibers are entrained in a gaseous medium and coated while entrained with a substantially continuous coating of a binder material. Plural coatings of various binder materials may be applied to the entrained fibers. Also, one or more solid particulate materials may be adhered to the fibers by the binder material as the binder material dries. The binder material may be heat bondable and mixed with other fibers for use in producing a wide variety of products.

Method of treating discontinuous fibers

The multi-layer polyolefin shrink film of this invention provides shrink tensions, optical clarity, cuttability, sealability, shrink temperature range, and tear resistance heretofore unobtainable in an oriented, monolayer polyolefin material. The preferred film has three layers in which the core layer comprises a blend of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer with ethylene-butylene copolymer and each skin layer comprises ethylene-propylene copolymer.

Heat shrinkable films of polypropylene and an ethylene/butene copolymer

Fine particle size CaCO 3 is encapsulated with low density polyethylene (LDPE) in a fluid energy mill. Very thin extrusion oriented films (as low as 0.4 mil.) were made using the LDPE encapsulated CaCO 3 at high concentrations of 32-61%. Such films are soft and have a dry "feel" and translucent appearance with slip and anti-block properties. They can be heat sealed, printed, and folded. The films can be used as paper and paper tissue substitutes.
