Film Breakdown and Nano-Porous Mg(OH)2 Formation from Corrosion of Magnesium Alloys in Salt Solutions

TL;DR: In this article, small angle neutron scattering (SANS) and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) were used to study film formation by magnesium alloys AZ31B (Mg-3Al-1Zn base) and ZE10A (Elektron 717, E717: Mg 1Zn + Nd, Zr) in H2 Oa nd D2O with and without 1 or 5 wt% NaCl.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transmission Electron Microscopy Study of Aqueous Film Formation and Evolution on Magnesium Alloys

TL;DR: Ooa et al. as mentioned in this paper discussed the implications of these findings on plant growth and proposed an open-access approach for non-commercial reuse, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is not changed in any way and is properly cited.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improvement in stannate chemical conversion coatings on AZ91 D magnesium alloy using the potentiostatic technique

TL;DR: In this article, anodic polarization during the stannate conversion process accelerated dissolution of magnesium ions and promoted deposition of the coating film and the optimal polarization potential was explored as a function of corrosion protection performance evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization curves in borate buffer solution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of surface pretreatment by acid pickling on the density of stannate conversion coatings formed on AZ91 D magnesium alloy

TL;DR: In this article, the potentiodynamic polarization technique was used to investigate the anodic behavior of the uncoated and coated magnesium alloy in borate buffer solution, and the experimental results showed that coating film density and corrosion resistance of stannate-coated samples prepared with pickling pretreatment were improved compared with those of the coated sample without pickling prereatment.
