A device includes an airbag and an outer cover. The airbag is accommodated between a body and a rear seat of a vehicle. The outer cover covers a space defined between the body and the rear seat from the passenger compartment and is exposed to the passenger compartment. When an impact greater than a predetermined level is applied to the vehicle body, a thin portion of the outer cover is ruptured by the pressure from inflation of the airbag. This forms an opening in the outer cover. The airbag is then inflated into the passenger compartment from the opening of the outer cover. The end at the part of the outer cover corresponding to the opening and facing toward the rear seat is entirely formed by the end of the outer cover.

Side airbag device

An airbag of a side airbag apparatus includes an upstream inflation portion, which inflates by inflation gas, and deploys frontward at a side of a vehicle seat. An opening is provided at a wall portion of the upstream inflation portion. A pressure regulator valve closes before an occupant is restrained by the upstream inflation portion, thereby restricting the inflation gas in the upstream inflation portion from flowing through the opening. Upon the occupant restraint, the pressure regulator valve cancels the restriction in response to a change in a tensed state of the dividing portion by an external force applied due to the restraint. A tear seam that connects valve body portions of the pressure regulator valve delays the opening time of the pressure regulator valve upon the occupant restraint by the upstream inflation portion relative to the opening time set only by the pressure regulator valve.

Side airbag apparatus

A vehicle side airbag device with a decreased load on the chest of passenger and an increased initial restraining performance resulting from a side airbag. In the side airbag device, a vent hole portion is formed from the stitching portion between a main panel and a side face panel being interrupted at a portion thereof. Flaps provided to the main panel and the side face panel are inserted from the vent hole portion into the chest chamber. The flaps close off the vent hole portion by means of the internal pressure of the chest chamber until the side airbag inflated and deployed between an occupant and a door trim. When the internal pressure of the chest chamber rise by means of chest chamber being compressed between the occupant and the door trim, the flaps are pushed out of an airbag main body portion, and the vent hole portion is opened.

Vehicle side airbag device

A side airbag device for a vehicle includes a gas generating device, a side airbag in which a front and a rear bag portions are defined by a front-rear partition section having a front-rear communication opening, gas supplied from the gas generating device into the rear bag portion is supplied into the front bag portion through the front-rear communication opening to allow the side airbag to be inflated and deployed from an outside portion in a vehicle width direction of a seat back, and the front bag portion is arranged on a vehicle front side of the rear bag portion in an inflated and deployed state, and an extending member provided in the rear bag portion and extended in the inflated and deployed state to restrict inflation of the rear bag portion in a vehicle fore-and-aft direction and enlarges inflation of the rear bag portion in the vehicle width direction.

Side airbag device for vehicle

A side air bag device embedded in a seat side portion for expanding an air bag (14) by rip-opening a sutured portion (26) of a seat skin material (20) by virtue of the expansion pressure of the air bag (14). In this device, a belt-like body (28) for concentrating the expansion pressure of the air bag when it is expanded is disposed so as to trigger the rip-opening of the sutured portion (26) of the skin material (20), whereby the quick rip-opening of the sutured portion (26) is made possible. In addition, in the above device, a seat pad (72) is interposed between an air bag case (16) and the seat skin material (20), whereby soft feel and touch of the seat are not lost.

Side air bag device

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To desirably regulate the expnsion condition of an air bag, and surely expand the air bag, eliminating any interference. SOLUTION: Gas spouting direction is controlled by connecting a bag 7 to an inflator 5 through a gas introducing portion 14 for restricting gas diffusion, wherein the bag 7 is comprised of a main body 9, a lower expanding portion 13, and an upper expanding portion 11 provided with a vent hole 16, so that the upper and lower expanding portion 11 and 13 are folded to make bellows within the main body. On expanding the air bag 7 by spouting gas from the inflator 5, at first, the expansion of the bag 7 is stared from the portion facing to an abdomen 8 where is more resistant to impact force than a breast 10 in the condition capable of absorbing the impact force, so that the expanding condition of the bag 7 is desirably controlled, resulting in the improvement in restricting an occupant 6. Further, vehicle body structure is provided not to interfere with the air bag when the upper and lower expanding portions 11 and 13 are expanded by inflating there from inside, so that the air bag 7 will be surely expanded.

Air bag against side collision

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a seat sitting feeling excellent even in the case of building an air bag in a seat by providing a supporting member with a guide part for guiding gas from a gas jet nozzle of an inflator in the expanding direction of the air bag. SOLUTION: An inflator 3 is formed in cylindrical shape long in the vertical direction of a front seat, and a gas jet nozzle 3a for spouting gas is formed at the lower end part. A supporting member is so formed that its length in the vertical direction of the front seat is almost equal to the length of the inflator 3, and a guide part 10 composed of an extended part 10a for guiding gas from the gas jet nozzle 3a in the expanding direction of an air bag 4, and a reflecting part 10b for reflecting gas is formed near the gas jet nozzle 3a of the inflator 3. A front seat sitting feeling can thereby be kept excellent even in the case of building the air bag 4 in the front seat.

Air bag module

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To deploy an air bag reliably in a narrow clearance between a vehicle body and a seated position of an occupant without applying an excessive impact to the occupant. SOLUTION: An inflator 5 has at a lower portion a blowhole 15 for blowing gas into a portion of a bag 7 opposed to an abdominal region 8 of an occupant 6. Deployment of the bag 7 is started with the portion opposed to the abdominal region 8, which resists a higher impact load than a thoracic region 10. At the deployment start with high pressure, a body 9 of the bag 7 is brought in contact with the abdominal region 8 resisting a higher impact load than the thoracic region 10 to push the occupant 6 inward, and thereafter, an upper inflation portion 11 of the bag 7 in a state capable of absorbing impact force is brought in contact with the thoracic region 10, which deploys the bag 7 beside the occupant 6. The air bag is reliably deployed in a narrow clearance between a vehicle body and the seated position of the occupant 6 without applying an excessive impact to the occupant 6. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
