This publication discusses new opportunities for creating threshold schemes for secret sharing arising from the use of mathematical linguistic formalisms. Such methods are based on known threshold schemes of information splitting extended by adding an extra stage at which bit blocks of the shared information are coded using suitably defined context-free grammars. In practice, this will help with developing new algorithms, which besides allowing information sharing will also make it possible to obtain protocols for the confidential exchange of this information with or without involving a trusted instance. Such protocols will contribute to the development of modern cryptographic techniques and future computer science.

The use of mathematical linguistic methods in creating secret sharing threshold algorithms

In the paper will be presented a new way of secret sharing algorithms expansion towards additional, linguistic stage, for the generation of the secret linguistic elements. Such a part shall be generated in the form of a linguistic description of the shared data, built by defined context-free grammar. The introduction of linguistic formalism in this scheme will provide additional information required for revealing the secret previously split with any (m, n)-threshold scheme.

Linguistic Approach to Cryptographic Data Sharing

This publication presents a new technique for splitting secret information based on mathematical linguistics methods and allowing sequences of one or several bits to be coded in the way used in DNA cryptography. This solution represents a novel approach allowing DNA substitutions to be generalised and bit blocks of any length to be coded. Apart from extending the capability of coding in DNA cryptography, the technique presented will also make it possible to develop a new type of a hierarchical secret splitting scheme. Such schemes can be employed when developing new types of cryptographic protocols designed for the intelligent splitting and sharing of secrets.

Grammar encoding in DNA-like secret sharing infrastructure

This publication will present a new approach how to extend well-known algorithms of secret sharing, towards another stage of information encoding with the use of the grammar formalism. Such an algorithm would be based on the appropriate sequential LALR grammars allowing shared bit sequences, and more generally blocks of several bits, to be changed into new representations, namely sequences of production numbers of the introduced grammar. This stage can be executed by a trusted third party or arbiter generating shadows of the secret. Such methods would form an additional stage improving the security of shared data.

Security of Linguistic Threshold Schemes in Multimedia Systems

Information splitting is used in many tasks of the intelligent sharing of secrets and key data in business organisations. The significance of information splitting depends on its nature, while the significance of information sharing may depend on its importance and the meaning it has for the organisation or institution concerned. This study presents and characterises models for multi-level information splitting and information management with the use of the linguistic approach and formal grammars. The appropriate methods for secret sharing to be chosen for the specific type of an organisational structure will be identified depending on this structure.
