A power generation system includes at least one turbine system. The turbine system includes a compressor section comprising at least one stage, configured to supply a compressed oxidant and a combustion chamber configured to combust the compressed oxidant and a fuel stream comprising carbon-based fuels and to generate a hot flue gas. The turbine system further includes an expander section having an inlet for receiving the hot flue gas comprising at least two stages. The two stages include a high-pressure expander configured to generate an expanded exhaust gas rich in CO 2 . The high-pressure expander fluidly coupled to a low-pressure expander configured to generate a final exhaust and electrical energy. A CO 2 separation system is fluidly coupled to the high-pressure expander for receiving the expanded exhaust gas from the high-pressure expander and providing a CO 2 lean gas that is then fed to the low-pressure expander.

The placement of fully available prime movers having a DC output at a location inside or adjacent to an inverter-based intermittently available renewable energy site is disclosed. The fully available prime movers add reliability to an unreliable energy asset that is reaching its maximum penetration within the grid due to its unpredictability and the requirement for additional spinning reserves in other parts of the grid. The present invention can provide a portion or all of the power to an intermittently available renewable power generating facility so that the power output to the power grid is dispatchable power. In particular, a method and means are disclosed to utilize high-efficiency engines operated on various fuels some of which may be non-fossil fuels to maintain a constant power output from an otherwise intermittent power generating facility.

The subject invention provides engine braking for a gas turbine engine as well as reducing fuel consumption.

Gas turbine energy storage and conversion system

A method and system for increasing the pressure of gaseous fuel delivered to a fuel system of a gas turbine engine. A portion of pressurized gas or compressed air is discharged from a high-pressure section of the gas turbine engine and is communicated to a plurality of radial inflow turbines or axial flow turbines. Energy is transferred from each turbine to a plurality of compressors driven by the turbines. Gaseous fuel is supplied to an inlet of one of the compressors. The compressed gaseous fuel is then cooled downstream of the compressors. The aftercooled and compressed gaseous fuel is delivered to the fuel system of the gas turbine engine.
